Paul - BP won't solve your PO4 problem completely. It almost always deplete NO3 first. Some people even dose NO3. You can run a little GFO to remove the excess PO4.
For hair algae problem you can get a couple of Emerald crabs. These have done wonder for me.
Forget about measuring PO4 I found it quite useless. BP is good but be patient and wait for it to kick in. I would get 3 emerald crabs that will take care of you algae problem.
Mark_C no rush. You must be busy with the new baby. I have been reading on the internet and setting up a station. Just not sure the exact thing to do yet. Maybe this is one of the things that once you've done it it becomes much easier.
So cool. This is and will be the only one in the WORLD. On the other hand electricians charge $100/hour and this will probably take at least 40 hours to build. Don't even mention the cost of copper. You got to love DIY :)
Mark - thanks for the extensive info. Would love to check out your setup one day. (BTW I have bought a saw blade and will work on the acrylic soon :) ).
Think I will start doing Phyto. One step at a time. Already have the air pump and airline tubing. Just need to find a suitable container and a...
Is there a lot of benefits to both fish and corals (other than breeding) cultivating Phyto & Pods to feed the tank? How about Brine? Like to hear from those who have are doing this. I know Paul B feed Brine everyday to his pipe fish. Does baby brine shrimps also benefit corals?
Almost 4 months after the rockwork change. It certainly has proved to be a challenge. Went thru a lot of algae problems. But learned a lot too. I now run BP + Chaeto/Caulerpa + GFO. BP is less than half of the recommended dosage. Just a little GFO to remove the extra PO4. Really like the...
I see you have a few bubble algae on the rocks. Get a few emerald crabs to take care of that before it gets out of hand.
With tank of your size just skimmer is not enough. Refugium or some type of carbon dosing is needed.
