Did you look up a Coris Wrasse? They'll go after all types of worms and other pests. You run the risk of them going after the smaller peppermints, but IMO, I'd rather loose shrimp then watch a butterfly go bad and eat up expensive zoas. Plus, there are some pretty cool looking coris wrasses out...
Mike, how big are the ones at AqOb? HiddenReef has a few, and they're about 5inches long, as long as the water isn't too cold ;D They were $20.
PanMatt, thx for the info! The LFS told me they wouldn't do well do to the high-flow of a reef tank, so I backed off from buying one.
i don't think bristleworms are bad, just want to keep the population in check. Plus, it's pretty cool to see my six-line stare at a crevice in the liverock, then yank out a bristleworm.
I think panmatt is the resident guru of pipefishes and seahorses. Hopefully he'll see this thread and post.
I could have sworn I read in one of the posts around here that the dragon-face pipefish is one one of the few that could actually do ok in a reef aquarium, provided no agressive fish bothers it. Was hoping someone could confirm this before I add one. I want to add fish to my system that are both...
In-sump skimmers take up sumps space and require to sit in constant water level to skim consistently. There are some really highly rated ones and are generally more affordable (Euroreef RS, ASM, BubbleMaster, BubbleKing Mini)
Recirculation skimmers can be plumbed externally, but require a small...
UVI? Or did u mean UVL? I was debating between Giesmann and UVLs, and I went with Giesmann cause they make a 20K bulb. Plus Mott768 uses Giesmann, and I wanna be like Mott :)
Mike & Steve, seems in both your pictures, the polyps are actually deeper in color than then rest of the acro. On mine, the polyps are basically the same shade of blue and pretty much blend in. What temp bulbs do you use?
What KIND of anemone is it? Like Mike said, bubble tips typically stay put. I got mine from Camz too and it moved around at night for a day or so but has stayed put ever since (got it in sept). If you have a BTA and it keeps moving, it may not like your water chemistry.
thx carlo...that's good to know. Of course those are two things I DON'T have test kits for. What levels should they be at? I can google it but if you know off hand please post.
I run 175watt 15K iwasakis now. I'm adding 2x54watt Giesmann 20Ks and 2x54watt Giesman true actinics this weekend if I...
I got mine around then too from a guy in NY. First time I ever had anything shipped to me, and it came brown. Now the polyps are blue, but the body is only blu-ish. I think it's my lighting. I have an ORA blue tort too, and that isn't as blue as I've seen in other tanks. Greens, purples, oranges...
Anyone ever buy from Roe's Marine World? They have dendros and some cool micromussas available, and I was thinking of buying from them. Wanted some feedback before I drop any money.

i just paid $35 at the HiddenReef to have it done. They charge $20 for holes 1" and smaller, $35 for > 1" up to 1 3/4.
To put in a 1" bulkhead, I needed a 1 3/4" hole.
carlo, that I get :) The company I work for builds long-haul DWDM systems (fiber optic transport) I was just wondering if you had quantitive values for the light output between a 200 and 400 watt setup, everything else being equal. You mentioned that there was little difference between the two...
you can try dripping kalkwasser manually at night until you have your kalk reactor setup. I think you have an auto-topoff system already, right? You'd have to get like a two liter bottle (or bigger) and mix up the kalk powder with RO water. Shake it up like you're making a martini, let it...
wrasses are suppose to be natural predators of worms, but if you're taking bets on a 6-line versus a 1ft+ brisltworm, my money is on the bristleworm.
I have a few giant bristworms lurking in my 75gal. I wanted to use them as an excuse to put in a harlequin tusk ... but he'd probably eat all my...
Is this from emperical data? If it is, I'd be interested it what the actual measured light different was between the 250 and 400. The 150watt difference has to go somewhere :) If there isn't much difference in PAR, then I would imagine the power converted to heat, implying the 400watt ballast is...
are you sure the suggestion wasn't to remove all the filter PADS from the cansister? I've never heard of running a canister with nothing in it, but it is pretty common to remove all of the pads and just run the media chambers without them. The "theory" is that the pads will trap too much...
Did you pay extra for those nice sized frags? I was thinking of ordering from ATL when the weather gets warmer, but I heard from a few people that their frags run really small. The pics you posted look great, however.
Carlo, i thought a big factor in your sandbed depth was the particle size of the sand? i.e. sugar-size or oolite sand creates anaerobic pockets at shallower depths, while bigger diameter grade sand requires a deeper bed to nurture denitrifying bacteria. Did you see this in your experiments?
I...
