the media rack goes right into compartment 2. once you remove the bioballs, it slides right in. you would have to add more water if you go that way, but i definitely noticed a big increase in water quality. i didnt bother trying to make one, since i dont have the right tools to make it. Its...
i think i figured out my problem. My actinic bulb after a short while doesnt shine blue, it shines white. i am guessing it has gone bad. I am going to call oceanic and see if they will warranty it because i am still in the manufacturers warranty period.
if not, i will just buy it, but i figure...
i wouldnt remove them all at once. i would do maybe 15% to 25% per week. they do their job with holding the good bacteria. if you remove it all at once, you may get a small spike causing a small cycle. to me it isnt worth the risk.
If you can afford it, the intank media rack is the best...
i was doing more thinking on this
at one point i thought,
just 3 50/50 bulbs, but then i cant do the dawn/dusk
or two 50/50 and 1 actinic. then i would have more actinic then white. i am not sure if that is healthy for the corals
then finally i thought of what was suggested, of 1 of each...
the cover is kind of a pain to get out. you have to lift on an angle, i dont remember if i grabbed it from the back or the front, but it wont come out if pull strait up. i think i used needle nose pliers, but i dont remember. its definitely not in there with silicon or anything, you just have to...
Currently in my tank i have 3 bulbs, 2 10k and 1 actinic. The colors in my tank look amazing when i have the single actinic on, but when i put on my 2 10k's, it is so bright, that things tend to drab out a bit (for lack of a better word)
it is getting close to the time i should replace my...
i found these articles. they are a couple years old, but i am thinking of switching to tropic marine pro. it seemed to have the highest copper levels of all the tested salts, but in my opinion it was closest to natural sea water for most other things
part1...
my last bag of salt, towards the end would not disolve in the water. i ended up throwing it out and getting new salt.
what is the best salt to use, i have been using oceanic, but after this i dont really want to use it
here is a picture of the new frogspawn and my zoos.
the frogspawn is very green when i have the actinic lights on, and when you look from above. in the picture is hard to tell how green it is. it looks kind of brown, but it is very green. these pictures are taken after a few hours of being in...
here are some more pictures.
the first shot is of my new frogspawn. it has been in the tank about 6 or 7 hours and the lights have been on for 4 at the point of the shot. its the first thing in my tank that my wife thought was really cool. it is pretty green, although it is hard to tell from...
with the stock hood, i dont think you can control the fans through the blue lights. i am fairly sure they are powered by the white light.
i think your times are good. you are doing the twilight hours which is great. i only have my lights on for 7 or 8 hours per day because i dont have timers...
