I am by no means a lighting expert but I have T5 on a 55 and have a lot in there that is doing great. I think with the 12" height you will be able to do it just fine.

I guess there are way too many factors that can go into this. It also depends on what type of setup you want to do with MH or T5 or a combo and things like that.

XM and Sirus are merging. This will change things around. I Love the DMB but my real love is real jazz so XM does that good for me on the REAL jazz channel.

Are there any pros/cons to having the Protien skimmer in the sump or plumbed outside it other than just the room it takes up?

Most likely except for the controller portion unless you are good at building micro processors.

The reason I say that is because I am having an algea outbreak in my tank right now. It has been just fine for a long time now and it just jumpted out. I never used RO water before but now I am. I got a RO/DI unit so lets see if that makes a difference.
