My nitrates are testing at about 35ppm. I know I need to do a water change to lower it. I did a 10g one a few days ago. I need to make more RO water which I do outside and with this rain won't happen soon. My question is should I use tap water or wait until I get more RO made? Mark

I have an old Berlin classic skimmer that needs a pump. It is free to NJRC members. It is missing the hoses that drain back into the sump. I used two pieces of I had laying around.

What is an ideal temp? My tank was 82 and hit 84. I unplugged the heater, set at 78, and this morning the temp is 77. I measure temp in the sump. That is a 7 degree drop in less than 24 hours and am concerned.

Jon, No idea exactly. I am sure no skimmer for 2 weeks and the heat this weekend took a toll. Right now the temp is about 76f using a floating mercury thermometer. I need to test everything else. But always had problems with SPS and zoos.

I don't have that problem. Are all the hose connections snug? Some people on otehr sites used a sponge to prevent this from what I read.

Problem solved. I used a Mag7 on the Berlin Classic which is comparable to the RIO2500. I can't even keep the air valve open much or it overflows. Thanks to everyone for help here and in the Emergency forum post.

Thanks everyone for the help. In speaking with Mike came to realize that niether skimmer is working properly because I don't have a needle wheel pump. The Berlin started skimming a little but took almost two hours. The other skimmer is now setup correctly but also needs a needle wheel.
