I was watching one of the new nassarius vibex snails try to flip itself over and watched as the yellow coris proceeded to jet over and attempt to rip the snail out of it's shell.
I had been wondering why all my nassarius only come out at night now. Also been noticing a lot of empty shells.
I...
so....how big is this tank to have:
blue hippo
flame angel
yellow tangs (plural - how many?)
harlequin tusk
clown trigger
goby
....?
Understanding the tank size and number of fish can help dictate whether a disease like ich can be controlled or not. If there is constant intimidation or...
A foxface IS a rabbitfish. It's not a scribbled one.
S. vulpinus is known as the "Foxface Rabbitfish" but people just called it a "foxface".
They are very good about eating algae but as far as I can recall - they are prolific poopers like tangs. The one positive I like though is if you have a...
Agree with the above post...totally normal for anemones to inflate and deflate. how big of a tank and what kind of lights do you have?
I like to also see whether a nem has the energy reserves to ensure it's tentacles can grab food easily (e.g. they are sticky to the touch). What kind of anemone...
the tunze 7096 also has the feed button. With the pumps on during feedin, food would get blown into LR and I believe I was feeding my verimitd snails instead of my fish.
I feed cyclopeeze and some small pellets once a day. As much as can be eaten in less than 2 minutes (the timer by which the pumps kick back on).
I will note that I use a turkey baster to get a pellet or two down to my pearly jawfish. New fish, not used to eating like the others quite yet and I...
Blue Spots grow a lot bigger than the pearlys and I saw a pic where the tail of a firefish was sticking out of the BSJ's mouth....lemme see if I can dig it up.
The softner is preventing the hard water from depositing minerals all over your pipes, appliances and drinking water. A slight uptick in the TDS should not be a concern. Not sure why that is happening - but then again I've never measured my tds before the softner. As I undersatnd it the softner...
I am not sure of the idea of blacking out the right side - as in like with a piece of black background? Whatever you try do not do it permanently as it will make re-sale of the tank (if that ever occurred) to be difficult.
7" is a lot of space imho. You could set a single vortech on that side.
Those are really great pics of your trip to indiana. Thanks so much for sharing. Iknow all of this could have been summed up with the "nice pics" post but that has been said many times I just hate using that phrase... ;)
Did they allow you thru the drygoods warehouse or no? I was thinking it...
not worth it unless you have a really really big system. The seattle aquarium had an huge surge device for their tidal pool display. If I recall right the shedd aquarium had the same also.
The biggest issue in my opinion is salt spray.
So i'm not going to dispute the need for a softner - I will question the idea that you "run out" of soft water. I would say that seems to be a little strange. If your home is utilizing the water that frequently, then you should be able to just execute a manual regeneration. On the other hand...
Can't believe the tank has been up a year.

At a max temp of 72~74....SH will be exposed to a lower immunity at higher temps (per panmanmatt).
What about pipefish? Not sure if the requirements are similar temp wise.
TFP...the mecca of dry goods.... ;D Servicing all my pets needs from the small animals to the reptiles to the sw fish. A+ One summer we got a room at the hotel (i forget the name) which has an indoor pool with a slide and everything for the kids.
Before I moved to NJ - I have hit places like...
