    Here's my Big Office System

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax hey it was my first time there...i just know it was a 400w MH on top of a shallow frag tank. The rail definitely moved left to right / right to left. Again I didn't look at it carefully because I couldn't stop staring at all the frags. I will be back...

    Something attacking our starfish

imagine a chocolate/white striped serpent star with a small hole right in the middle of it's body. Almost looks like somebody took a screwdriver and pushed it right down the middle and dug the meat out. To me it's hard to know the sequence - was the hole that caused the death - or did it die...

    My 1st Aussie Acan

how do you fit all that in your tank? it's beautifully stocked to the gills already! so where did you get that beauty?

    Something attacking our starfish

i'm not a brittle/serpent star expert so it's just pure guess on my part. I've seen the other true starfish disintegrate due to lack of feeding - so I am guessing. oh and a mantis would not do that to the best of my knowledge. I don't even think harlequins would pick at a serpent star.

    Canopy versus open top

i have a 120 with open top. Main reason for that is because our house tends to get very warm in the summer and I wanted the additional openness for evap. Also because I'm relatively short it was a real pain to get on a step ladder to do anything in the tank.

    Here's my Big Office System

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax smcooler uses a light rail on his frag tank. I stupidly didn't realize the thing moved and he was like - back up or your hair will catch on fire...LOL!

    healthy ferret?

I've never had a ferret but an alternative would be to pick one up at a shelter. http://petfinder.com/ I located a guinea pig shelter and went with my family to "rescue" a pair. I noticed they also have ferret listings for other shelters. Just type in ferret in the search bar and your zip and...

    Astrea Spawning?

i have heard of ceriths spawning (congrats!) - mine would just lay those squiggly eggs but nothing ever came from them before they were decimated for their shells by my blue-legged hermits. Anyways - my only caveat here is - you are sure they are baby ceriths and not say rissoid snails or worse...

Should I get more Live Rock to lower NO3?

Detritus is the word we use... just for the record i used tap water on my old 55 gallon and it worked fine. Mind you I didn't have tridacnid clams or sps corals - but all of my fish and softies were totally fine. The gorgonians especially seemed to proliferate. The usual mushrooms and zoas...

    Stocking question?! school of .....

join the club! ;D the behavior of fish in the ocean where they show schooling unfortunately does not translate here in the glass box. Even that guy with the 4000 gallon tank will not be able to get his 40 tangs to "school". Just doesn't happen like in the ocean. Oh they will school to your...

    NJ Motor vehicle commission

I just had both my cars go thru inspection. As usual there were two people working the line. The guy in the front was fast smooth and a professional. The second gentleman (the one who actually drove your car) could care less about being there, was more concerned about people using their $10...

    DSB/RDSB? Think Again People

His main theory (and it is just a theory) is that DSB are the cause of nitrates. Such a generalization for all tanks is flawed. You and I both know the vast majority of people overstock their tanks. Furthermore people also place a DSB in an area/volume that is entirely too small and then throw...

    Dream Tank - 4000 Gallons

the design has got holes in a rack in the sump for what looked like 9 or 12 filter socks. I hope his washing machine isn't occupied with laundry...lol. Anyways - when the builder makes a statement that 200 micron is required for saltwater - it makes me cringe to think whether or not the person...

    Dream Tank - 4000 Gallons

Interesting filtration scheme: Two 10000 GPH pumps return into tank, one goes thru UV and into left corner return and other goes thru ULTIMA and into the right corner return. The third pump is 8000 GPH amd is only for the skimmer system it returns into the sump. Bio-tower and chiller have has...

    Dream Tank - 4000 Gallons

i agree...and then you add in the fact that he has a horde algae-eating tangs...with nothing to pick at. I'd love to seen at least ONE panther grouper and a clarion angel and a big fat eel... Anyways a 90 colt and a 92 T&C will get you a 4000 gallon tank. You just have to throw in the 2nd...
