Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
yeah - I just noticed that too. If you want to clean the impeller - you can just tug it off... it's a magnet that is keeping it on the Kalk reactor.
Sorry for the fuzziness - I just took a quick photo.
for sumps - check this page out:

or ask our resident expert - richt - he designed and custom built the one I bought (used). He's "retired" now but might be able to chime in on your design.
in terms of a skimmer - you could go without one for now (like...
+1.
Mine is brand new and the only thing that is missing is the 'motor housing/impeller'. When i went to open the maxijet 400 box, it was just the motor/impeller in there. There aren't any instructions to glue it in - and that would kinda defeat the purpose since the whole idea is to replace...
sorry to hear. If you want to make this into a formal trade - you'll need to post this in the fs/ft forum.
If that is what you want to do - please just reply here - and note location and price/what you'd like to trade for.
I or another mod will move it. Thanks.
oops - i didn't know that "thingy" was a check-valve. I don't have any check valves. I also went with tru-union valves - not the ball valves you have.
Anyways - couldn't this set up still work? I would only use the valve below the T for maintenance - that is, when I wanted to clean the pump...
lol - I guess I am not stupid!
Anyways the little maxijet 400 i have it plugged into the PM Kalk Reactor (as depicted on this vid. I did not make the vid. At 1:00 they show the maxi.

stupid me - i have a maxi jet that is "external" for my pm kalk reactor. I haven't set it up yet so I didn't realize.
after reading this - if tight for space, I'd probably go the route mav was talking about - putting both phos and carbon granuales in the one reactor. Or if you didn't want the...
really sorry to hear about this. At the very least we will pray for Maddie - but also that you + family will be given strength in this time of uncertainty.
i've never seen a maxi-jet run inline. I would think that might cause a flood.
As for running carbon in a phos reactor - I would guess that would work. You sure have a lot of stuff running on this 29g. Why do you need carbon? to polish the water?
I see no reason why you cannot leave the tank as is - in a 'minimalist' set up. The only thing more rock buys you is the potential for detritus (aka crud) to collect in the back. Yes there is the positive of some anaerobic bacteria buried in the rock somewhere - but I would bet your nitrates go...
Re: AGA 120 (very few pictures and lots of dull writing)
Well - brief update on the black sand question. I posted a question to the good Dr. Ron Shimek over on the MD forum and he provided the following answer:
I also have black sand in my tank, it presents a very natural appearance. As...
never knew that - but it does make sense...lol. I don't have any experience here since slightly elevated levels of copper = death to inverts in the tank. If I were to use it - I'd only use it in my QT.
The way I see it - there are so many variables in the tank (like having sand that is...
I am sorry - I meant locking it.
Anyways - I decided on merging the two threads - so we can keep track of everything here.
It's a little bit jumbled - but for the most part - the gist of your questions are here.
Interesting set up!
Have you thought about removing some sand? Reason I ask is that at that level - it looks almost parallel (same height) as your spraybar. Maybe it's the pic - but that's what is looks like. If you remove some height from the sand -t hen the spraybar would theoretically blow...
SWEET - I really like it. So much better than my scape...dang now I am going to pull all my rock out and try building it again like you have there! ;D ;)
It doesn't always work - but there are threads about people feeding asterina starfish - which are easily captive-bred since they reproduce by fission. The only catch is that there is one species (out of the unknown dozens/hundreds/thousands) that supposedly eats corals.
The ones I have came...
