Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
if you want I could move this into the DIY forum- perhaps some folks there can help chime in?
Aside from that - personally - and I caveat this big time because I am sooooooo not handy - I dunno if I'd want to build my old tank - only because if I screw up the silicone work - I'd have an awful...
good luck! funny story- I had suggested someone to blast the LR with RO water a while back and the guy told me he did it - but it didn't work. I asked him how he did it and he said he loaded a turkey baster with RO water and put the baster into the tank and blasted it with RO water... ::) I...
welcome to NJRC.
My personal take is a UV is an optional piece of equipment for a tank. Though I can see how they may be helpful to counter-act one part of the ich life cycle. Still - if I had X amount of dollars to spend, I'd spend it on upgrading to a better HOB skimmer instead of the UV.
from a cost perspective - i believe CB specimens are more expensive than WC...so this is a great opportunity to do something about sustainable husbandry via your wallet! ;)
After the new tank has cycled, and you have your old rock that is already cured, I don't see why you can't just add all of it right away. Maybe I'm mis-reading the question/situation?
I would not want to add my old/lr with coral to a new tank that is still cycling.
Neogonodactylus Wennerae are the usual suspects but they are pretty small and I'd be shocked if it did any damage to the reef other than the occasional snail (though shrimp could be targets I guess).
Good luck. I never was able to trap mine...I had to grab the LR the guy lived in and blast the...
Not trying to dissuade you from attempting the move...but two things to pause/consider:
exposure to oxygen will be detrimental to the anaerobic bacteria. Just by moving it you are bound to expose the bacteria to oxygen. You will also likely trap some aerobic bacteria in the bottom of the new...
might be a pistol...saw some huge ones on other tbs lr and some tiny (almost transparent ones) on mine that all made the same loud pop. May not need to be concerned about it...
i'd get rid of the sand...unless it has fauna in there that you want to keep (like amphipods/worms/micro stars). Most people do not have that kind of fauna unless your sand is more the crushed coral kind...
Anyways - for the size tank - (15 gallons or even the 29) - I'd only put enough sand in...
I personally haven't used any since I never really had any frags in my tank...I picked up some corals from fellow reefers way back when that were already set on LR so just added that to my tank. I don't even know how to frag a coral...something I'm sure I'll learn soon enough with this club...
sinkingbeach - what is your day job? ;D
since 2/4:
PDS is up 13% ..at $21...
XOM is up 6% plus cash dividend.
REFR is down 12%
But seriously - i like harry's post and think it deserves re-reading every single time I think I can make money trading stocks.
it's not a crab from the xanthidae family...(aka dark-finger crabs). As Dr. Ron Shimek would say - there are just too many to identify from that family and virtually impossible to identify given that most of the ones in our tanks are juveniles.
Regardless - it does look like the red mithrax -...
if you lean the LR against the backwall - it will be hard to clean the back wall later and it can result in some detrius (e.g. poop trapped) build up. That stated, a lot of people have the "fruit stand" look where you lean LR against the back wall. You can compensate by having a PH in the back...
just because a tank is bigger doesn't necessarily make it better...look on the bright side - it could have been a BIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGG funk from a big tank!
