I'll be bring a Mexican pizza with chips.....being bold enough thinking that I'll be able to use the oven for about 30 minutes? Otherwise, a cold Mexican Pizza!
This is true. The way you control these is by turning one dial for the blues and another dial for the whites.
The way I see it, these manual dials for setting intensity can be used for:
1. Acclimating the lights to the corals
2. Balancing blue to white to your eye’s pleasure

Skimmer Tweaks
Now that it looks like this cone skimmer is going to work out, I’ve decided to do a couple tweaks.
First thing was to raise it up a bit. It currently sits on a shelf that runs the full width of the sump, and has the skimmer at nine inches deep. The full length also keeps the...
Don, it’s actually doing just the opposite. I’m no longer getting microbubbles, just large bubbles shooting out the bottom of the pipe….with quite a bit of force. The microbubbles are being stopped by the baffles.
George, no worries about cleaning. The water is coming out with more force, disturbing the sandbed below. I actually can’t see bristle worms, algae, food or snails lasting long…..maybe some of the calcified worms, but the flow is pretty fast.
I’m still scratching my head on this one. I’ve...
For the life of me, I can’t see how this could work without a thin walled fritted glass electrode. This electrode must stay wet to maintain the solutions within the probe. That’s a real puzzle, unless this is a one season, short termed probe…..bottom line, it’s not going to last if the probe...
I think that’s a tremendous deal!
I contemplated purchasing these “Chinese” fixtures, but caught a deal on a used Apollo. I think they are a really good deal. I looked at it this way….what do you pay on yearly bulb changes; and how quickly could you recoup the cost of the fixtures in what...
For $12, I’d question the accuracy. If you were able to calibrate this unit, I’d consider purchasing. If you can’t calibrate, stay away. You also realize that this pH meter has an electrode that must be keep wet at all times….just like any pH probe.
So why are you eating up pH probes...
New bubble trap
Here’s my latest lamebrain idea for a bubble trap.
I pulled out the old Rube Goldberg bubble trap….too big, and growing all kinds of stuff.
Using a short length of 1 ½ pipe, I cut four slots about 2 ½ inches apart, half way through the pipe, and alternating from one...
Three to four Apollo’s mounted with their long axis perpendicular to the length of that tank would sure look good!
And I would have liked to see a video of them getting that tank through the Bilco. Four of use moved a 180 up a Bilco, and we broke our cojones.
Looking good!
Yea, that bugged me too Rich. But looks like Dave and George know the solution. Thanks guys….and thanks Rich for bringing it up. I’ll do the unplug thing when I mount this stuff for real in a cabinet. Good stuff!
With Apollo's covering two foot, that would put your tank at 12 foot. These aren't AI's, where they are typically one per foot. Now, is your tank 12 foot long?
Something is not kosher! The article states a 40 by 15 by 3 foot tank….and will hold 5,500 gallons. That doesn’t add up! That size tank would hold 13, 465 gallons of water. So something there isn’t right.
The other point I wish to make is that with this tank being 40 feet deep, the only...
George, I’m sure you’re right on that. In fact, isn’t the controllable Apollo literally just a month or two old? I don’t think they had the controllable units at our swap?? Did they? I thought they were just talking about them.
But you’re also right about getting a unit to Sanjay. I’m...
