You could possably save the casing.
You would have to measure the thickness of your bulbs,ballasts and reflector see what the height of the "retro" is as well to see if everything will fit in your JBJ case.
You might need to have the T5 ballasts in a remote location.

A retro fit is meant to be placed in a canopy,unlike a fixture that is meant to sit on top of a tank.
What your post is stating is stripping your light and wasted alot of time and money.
I'm putting a canopy on my tank and have painted the inside with kilz primer/sealer.
Just wondering if I should put a top coat on it or if the primer/sealer is good enough?
