I wouldn't use a solid piece the tank is gonne bake and the plexi will probably be covered with humidity drops constantly and not let your light pass through as well. How much water do you lose a day?

Hydraulic cement is more expensive though and you'll get about 20 pounds compared to a 90+ bag of portland. How much is it to just buy the plugs, seems like a lot of work

Yeah if you keep up on it with the plastic your good. The more often the better. Waiting for a starphire glass with an anti algae coating on it you never have to clean!
