    Fall/Winter Reminder! Check your heaters!

Just a friendly reminder! Time for a "heater check"! I do it every year. Usually I spend the money and replace heaters that seem to be too far off. Just finished checking my 30 gallon tanks and found one heater that had quit completely. Better to check now and avoid the emergency later!

    New Aquascaping

Stick a piece of white PVC in the tank and focus on it while setting the white balance on your camera. That should help you get the colors better.

Bill's MACNA Logs - Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC's)

Hey Boomer: I'm running probably about 2 cups (just by eyeballing the reactor, phasban 150 reactor about half full) of the GAC the group bought as a group buy a while back. Very small granular carbon. How often would you change it? And is there a such thing as "too much" to be effective? I...

Water Flow in the Aquarium - Experiments and learnings from Jake Adams' workshop

That's an interesting idea. Are you having any issue with the one at the bottom "storming" the sand?

    Portland Type III cement

I honestly don't know. She has begun mentioning rock now too. I gave her my 75 gallon, and that is going to be her thing. She wants an eel, that's all I know. LOL! I figure anything that keeps her interested in my hobby, is a GOOD THING for me! ;) She mentioned making frag mounts, not...

little worried about my baby clown

Rod's Food original blend. It's a pretty good mix. If I start on frozen, I generally slowly mix with flake until I get the fish eating flake as well. While i don't feed completely flake, I like to make sure the fish will eat flake. It's easier in the event I need someone not so experienced to...

    Portland Type III cement

Thanks Mr. X. Appreciate the offer, that's a bit of a drive for me. I'm hoping to find something local that can be a regular supplier if she decides she wants to stick with this. (hey, worse case scenario, I can use the excess to fix the sidewalk right? LOL!)

    Portland Type III cement

Cool. I know that whatever she uses, it will have to be cured for a good amount of time in fresh water to get the PH down. Is there anything else I should be concerned about leaching into the tank when deciding which concrete to mix with?

Water Flow in the Aquarium - Experiments and learnings from Jake Adams' workshop

I have a 210, 6ft long tank here that is my next major project. I want to get some of these new ideas worked out on the 90 and the 30 breeders before I tackle that, but from what I have been researching, the mp40's may actually be the economical approach with the 210! LOL! (not to mention about...
