Awesome stuff! Got a bunch at MACNA. Fish AND corals go crazy for it. Wanna see em really go nuts? Pick up the fish eggs next time and mix the two together when you feed.
Sorry. Wish I could. My "crash course" was my dad when I was a kid. Other than that, I just started grabbing tools and scraps and trying things out on my own.
No, the tubes use no optics. The LEDs are soldered right onto a PCB that is mounted inside a plastic tube like what you would slip over a fluorescent bulb in a standard light fixture.
I've seen those fixtures too and wsa curious, but the initial outlay seemed a little much for me to just play...
No problem. My pleasure.
I've tried SPS in the past, and NEVER had luck with them at all. No matter what I did.
I've looked at a couple different par meters. I may just break down and buy one. I keep seeing one on ebay for around $90. I'm curious about the readings myself.
Found the camera! Sorry, it isn't much better! LOL!
Important to note (even though I don't have shots to document):
1: Prior to changing the powerheads, I had the equivalent of "new tank syndrome" break out. Hair algae everywhere, detritus settling on rocks and causing brown diatom break outs...
The "one growing" is the female. The one who appears not to be growing that much is the male.
They "can" grow to a larger size, but my tomatoes are like I said at least 4 years old, and the femal is about 3", the male about 1 1/2" or so. I don't really expect them to get much bigger than that.
Ok, gave up on trying to find the stupid camera. Sorry for the crappy photos, but my camera phone was all I had. You can get a good idea of how brite the LED tubes are from this photo though. These were taken before I moved the powerheads after Jake's talk at MACNA, it is also right after a...
"Sexual Maturity" generally occurs between 12 and 24 months. You will notice one getting significantly larger than the other, and "patrolling" in the open more, and the other will remain smaller and most likely stick to a cave, outcropping, or small "territory" of the tank. The larger of course...
Ouch...
Yeah, I always go after the manufacturer first. Worst their gonna do is say no. The one I had that died was the "first generation", when they replaced it, they replaced it with the "Second Generation". Don't know what the difference really was, but I've had a bunch of them for a couple...
I've only ever had one koralia "die" on me. Like John said, it just quit for no reason. I emailed Koralia, they emailed me back within 24 hours with an RA #. I sent them the old pump, they sent me a new one. Had it back all told, both directions shipping, about 10 days.
Worst that can happen...
Couldnt you use the multiple "aragocrete" methods out there to form smaller rings and attach them together with the rigid airline tubing? Cover them in aragocrete maybe. And then "slip" the dome over some existing rock?
Or something like this, they have multiple different diameters...
Cool thing about LEDs is you can get the same shimmer as Halides.
I have looked into DIY for LEDs, it can get pretty pricey.
My biggest thing with this experiment was to see if I could find something adequately priced that would give me what I need in the tank and cut the electric bill. I was...
LOL I'll see what I can do.
The cool thing about these LED tubes is they are about the size of a T8 fluorescent tube. So they can pretty easily be mounted in just about anything. I just have them laying across a wood brace on top of the tank for the time being.
I will warn you though. I bought...
No problem on the info. Like I said, only been running the LEDs for about a month or so, so time will tell.
As for tank shot, I will do my best. Just don't mind the algae outbreaks! LOL!
And as for coming by, don't mind that either, but where are you? I'm in Newport, 08345. It's a pretty far...
