Very cool. Thanks for the pics.
The canopy on this tank is a beast (it's adesimone's old tank if that helps). The canopy stands almost 16" off the top of the tank, would you recomend hanging the retros to bring them down lower? Or do you think that extra distance off the surfaceis ok?
Active awareness goes a long way as well.
I make it a point everytime I go into my LFS to discuss with whomever I can my desire for aquacultured vs wild collected corals and fish. I also make it a point to mention I'm even willing to pay a bit more, as I know the price tags can generally be...
Aquaclear filters are amazing. I have some that are as much as 15 years old, and they just can't be killed.
If you are getting an Aquaclear, it should come with a foam block, a carbon bag, and a "nitrate absorbing" bag (which is uselss in my opinion). Great thing about Aquaclears is the flow...
Paul, I love seeing your posts! That things is pretty cool. What did you use to buildit? Looks like a combination of rock pieces and maybe some concrete?
Yeah, I saw her tank. It's AMAZING. I guess my biggest concern is penetrating the depth of the 210 with 39watt bulbs. And the 80watt bulbs are only 60" long.
How many and what size t5s are you going to be using for a tank that large?
I've had great success with T5s over 55, 75 and even 90 gallon tanks in the past. Wasn't sure they would be sufficient for a tank this large.
What would you use?
This is a beast of a tank. I have a distinct feeling that lighting will probably be my most expensive equipment purchase.
If you were setting this tank up, mixed reef, what lighting would you use to light a beast this big? It's sitting in my living room empty staring at me...
PERFECT wording! LOL. Good or bad, as Mr.X said, it "sterilizes" the water that passes through it. Will also contribute to heat, but not sure to what extent. I'd be more inclined to invest the money spent on UV in other areas. Better skimming, better water flow, better lighting, etc. But if you...
Nanoreefchris: How did you make out? Did you make any changes? What were your results so far?
Bob: What changes did you make? What have been your results so far?
Sorry! Lol! I'm curious to see others that have made similar changes and what their results were.
I just recently upgraded my two...
I've had them re-attach in as few as a couple of days, or as long as 2 weeks. I usually place them in a low flow spot in my sump on a pile of small rock rubble and let them attach on their own. If they are stressed, they will take longer to attach. At least in my opinion and experience.
HQI or double ended need the UV shield because the bulbs are not independantly shielded. Mogul based bulbs are independantly shielded. Although depending on the distance from the surface water, they probably should still have some sort of "splash" shield to avoid spray and salt creep from...
