Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Yup. that's it. The concept is to create that laminar flow, that gyre effect that forces water across the top and back to the pump across the bottom in a circular pattern. By placing the powerheads on the left side of the tank facing across the tank, it gives them a chance to opperate at their...
I placed mine both at the left side facing directly across the tank. Just low enough below the surface to continue to agitate the surface, but not so close to the top that they "splashed".
If you decide to try it, keep me posted on how it works out for you.
You may be experiencing a situation where the flow is getting broken up before it has a chance to reach its full potential.
Some of us were at a workshop/talk given at MACNA that spoke about creating a "gyre" effect, or circular motion across the tank by placing the powerheads at one end...
You can also prop it up on a "ring" of either rock rubble or discs, and when it spreads to the ring its sitting on, remove the pieces of the ring and replace them. Then you have frags to trade with as well as keeping it fairly contained. Kinda like "caging" it.
+1 on krylon fusion. Awesome even application on glass. Masking tape off the sides and any openings and make sure the glass is SUPER clean. Good to go. Did my 75 in 2 quick coats.
I've had fish that size "disappear" overnight in a 90 gallon. Never saw any side effects (except bigger hermit crabs!).
However, if it is a concern, try sticking a piece of rigid air tube down there and "pushing" him out a bit. The power head might work too. Guess it depends on just how far...
Wow, very cool. Thanks for the info, skipped off immediately to check out the specs on that thing. Pretty affordable as well all things considered. Looks like it averages about $275-$300.
Nice to be able to see what it's practically capable of first too! Keep playing and posting! ;)
I didn't experience that either. As a matter of fact, I was in the midst of nasty algae/cyano outbreak when I started using Rod's food (MACNA Weekend). And that's about when I changed the flow on my tanks and bought new salt for stepped up water changes, and now the algae/cyano is all but gone...
HOLY CRAP! Water change day at your place must be a NIGHTMARE! LOL!
Do you have nightmares about power outages??
Seriously, awesome. Wish I had the space. I'd have tanks everywhere!
Oh no, the people born and raised there certainly have to take a driving test. It's the foreign transplants that generally cause the issues. Always seems whenever you see someone do something mouth dropingly stupid, they have diplomatic plates. Like the idiot that stopped in the middle of the...
I gotta go with Maryland/Virginia. DC area to be exact. Talk about a hodge podge of morons who didn't even HAVE to take a test to get on the road! Only in DC have I seen (multiple times) somone throw it in reverse on the LEFT shoulder, cut across 4 or 5 lanes of high speed traffic to hit an exit...
I spent 3 years as a store manager for a "major national petstore chain", and I can't even count how many times I heard people say "fish aren't pets". REALLY? Then EXACTLY what are they?
Grr.. I will say this. The "national chain", at least at the time I worked there, did not purchase the...
Really nice. I can remember when I first wanted to keep discus being told how "impossible" they are to keep alive, and how even more impossible they were to breed in a home aquarium! LOL! My, how times change...
I kept them for a while, that and south american dwarf cichlids. Discus were by far...
