    question about frags

If you get frags, and you don't want to see the base they are glued to, you can always break apart the mount and then glue that to whatever rock you want in the position in you tank you want. If the frag is attached to rock rubble, you can usually just place that piece of rock somewhere, but if...

Water Flow in the Aquarium - Experiments and learnings from Jake Adams' workshop

Yeah, more power and more heat transfer were two other concerns. maxi's are power hogs. Well, if you give the experiment a try, keep us posted with your results.

Water Flow in the Aquarium - Experiments and learnings from Jake Adams' workshop

This is the interesting little job I ordered to try out in my 30 gallon tanks, got 2 double head units for about $50 shipped: It's put out by a Chinese company called "SunSun", but it is manufactured by J&T Industries, which is supposedly the same manufacturer that developed and manufactured...

Water Flow in the Aquarium - Experiments and learnings from Jake Adams' workshop

How long have you been using that modded maxijet? I'm just curious because I have a mod kit here that I got a long time ago as a "free gift" with some Marco rock purchases. But I never bothered because I was using the Koralias. That and I heard horror stories of people having the thing literally...

Water Flow in the Aquarium - Experiments and learnings from Jake Adams' workshop

Thanks rod, definately keep us posted. I've had my eye on those vortechs, theyre just so darned expensive! I know blange3 is using the vortech 40 performing a similar experiment. Will be interesting to see everyones findings with a few weeks under the belt.

Water Flow in the Aquarium - Experiments and learnings from Jake Adams' workshop

Ebay. :) Heres one of the links. I misquoted though, they are not the k5 equivs, they are closer to between k4 and k5. But I picked them up for my 30 gallon to try them out. Heres the link: http://shop.ebay.com/proquarium/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg= And then I found this too, this is...

    Portland Type III cement

Yeah, me either. She really wants to try this. Like I said, I'm just happy shes plugged in. I see so many who have significant others who arent. Definately makes it easier when she is. But, want to make sure whatever she uses is safe.

    Portland Type III cement

She wants to play with rock making and frag mount making. I just want to make sure whatever she "creates" is aquarium safe. Type III just seems to be what most have used on the sites I've seen. I figure as long as shes taking an interest, its worth a few bucks to me to let her play around. I...

    small electrical shocks??????????

Wait, let me see if I read this correctly. Are you only getting the shock when your hand is in the water AND you bump the light? Or are you getting the shock just by placing your hand in the water? I re-read the original post, and I think i read it as when you have your hand in the water and...

Water Flow in the Aquarium - Experiments and learnings from Jake Adams' workshop

Thanks monroereef. I've been happy with koralias so far. What I am looking at now is putting Jake Adams' workshop to practice. The pumps as they were located before were doing ok, in combination with the return lines. But with the new flow practice in place, they don't quite reach the 2/3 cross...

    Portland Type III cement

The only thing I seem to be able to find around here at all is quickcrete type I, Type I/II, Type N and Type S. I'm not even going to pretend to know enough about it to say whether any of these will work.

    blange3's 180 upgrade

Hey guys/gals, I moved the water flow tanlk here: http://www.njreefers.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=20609.0 so we wouldn't continue to off-topic Bill's tank thread. :) Feel free.

Water Flow in the Aquarium - Experiments and learnings from Jake Adams' workshop

Ok, so it seems we've "hijacked" blange3's tank thread with water flow discussions, so I figured I'd start this thread up here and try to move that conversation here. My understanding of it was this: 1: Coral growth on the reef creates its own disruption of the flow, or turbulence. 2: Moving...

    blange3's 180 upgrade

I don't know that there is an actual video of the workshop. But what I did find was a previous longer presentation he gave in a more expanded fashion then the time he had for the 15 minute workshop. It's just audio, but theres good information in it...

    blange3's 180 upgrade

Hey Bill! Just did this and the scoly went NUTS! (so did the acan frag) Rod's food fish eggs! I used a turkey baster and just dropped some right to the left of the scoly and let the flow carry it over it. Man did that thing go into nutso feeding mode! I'm completely sold on Rod's food! Oh, one...

    Portland Type III cement

Everything I read about DIY anything talks about portland Type III cement. I've looked all over the place. Does anyone know where I can actually GET portland type III cement? Or, if there is some acceptable equivalent that Lowes or Home Depot sells?
