    GENESIS in concert

If you want to "taste" one over the other, just check out their web site. You can usually get a free trial of their over-the-web stream. Most channels are usually online. As for the merger, well, only time will tell. I still can't see this one getting past the FTC. You know, that whole pesky...

Ok, so some people have to learn the hard way

Ack.. My youngest is only 20 months, so I have some time on that. Although, she does enjoy "feeding feeshies". Maybe a little TOO much! ;D Out of the 3 of em, at least I may have ONE budding young aquarist!

Ok, so some people have to learn the hard way

that Wrasses are pretty to look at as long as you CAN KEEP THEM IN THEIR *explitive deleted* GLASS BOX! AAARG! So, I turn off the pumps as usual today to feed and while I am getting the turkey baster ready to start putting the food into the tank I hear "sploosh" "flop" "flop" and look up in...

    "frags"

Even better. I like mine, I'd say go for it if it is within your budget. I don't think you can go wrong with that as a starter.

Not me, but by the looks of their prices, by the time you got done with their PC setups, you could go with Tek Light T5 retros and get MUCH better lighting. http://www.hellolights.com/482x54wtekli.html

Hehe. If I go MH on the new tank, I plan on tearing apart the T5 and using the components for actinic supplementation. But if I decide to sell it, I'll look you up. In the meantime, checkout http://www.hellolights.com They have some fairly priced T5 retro kits and full hood Tek Light T5s. I...

    Algea outbreak?

Just remember to go slow and check your results for each change you make. It will give you a better idea on what the root cause was to begin with, and help you when you set up your next tank (cause we all know its WHEN not IF! ;D ) Good luck, keep us posted!

Hey subliminal. I went with T5s on my 55, and I am keeping zoas, mushrooms, Green Star Polyps and I just added a small clam and LTA anemone. All are doing fantastic. I only have 4x54 watt HO, but wish I had gone a little bigger. I'm considering Metal Halide on my new system (are we ever really...

    Algea outbreak?

I don't think your photoperiod is too long, but you may want to look into removing those sponges. They could be contributing to nitrate buildup.

    LED Lights?

    T.D.S. Meter

I use the handheld meter that came with Air Water Ice unit, but I definitely like the idea of that in-line one. I may look into that myself. I test everytime I run my unit.

    Algea outbreak?

Yeah, if you don't have the tank up and running yet, now is the time to do it. Start it off right. I wish I had. And I have well water with a whole house filter and softener. City Tap water can be even worse. Keep this in mind though. My tap water tests at 250+ TDS, RO only after nearly 10...

    Opinions on overflow vs. RR

I'm running an external overflow on my 55, and while I've had no floods from it, I will say that it has been a pain in the posterior. Noisy and difficult to keep clean. My next tank will definitely have internal overflows. Seems there are just way more options in that arena than the hang on...

    Algea outbreak?

The only thing I can see is to get to the root of what is causing the nitrates. Could be trapped nutrients in the crushed coral substrate. Also review your feeding patterns and your photo period. If you are feeding too heavily, the excess is contributing to the nitrate levels, thus feeding the...

    Algea outbreak?

I had the same problem with my tank. For me it was the nitrates and underpowered skimmer, plus the fact that I was not using RO/DI water. I upgraded the skimmer, installed a phosphate reactor with rowaphos to eliminate the phosphates, and kept up on cleaning the rocks. I actually had to pull my...
