Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I had the 57g with the mega overflow and hated it. You will be happy that you cut it down even though it was a PIA. Love the swc skimmers so good choice there. Have you thought about stocking?
How does your tank look?
When we had our smaller tanks (57g and under) we were pretty religious with %10 weekly changes. Small and steady can only help you in this hobby. Now that we have a 400g system with a calcium reactor we don't have to be quite so crazy. We do 65g every 2-3 weeks...
One of the main reasons we upgraded is we did not trust the stand on the 57g oceanic. It had too much wiggle to it and made us nervous, especially when 15 pound cats jump at the glass. The new tank and stand are not budging at all so we are much happier. I think you will also enjoy the peace...
Be careful with them, use gloves if you are using your hands. If you can find one of the aipstaia "zappers" to borrow from someone on here, they do a great job on them. I know Ed and curt have them.
I would say it is a paly, however they can be even more invasive and nasty then aipstia. If they are starting to invade your acans you might have a problem.
Welcome to the club, I ran that same 30g cube for almost 1.5 years before I upgraded and it was a great tank.
First piece of equipment I would recommend would be an ATO unit. This will keep the water in the sump level so you are not sucking any bubbles into the display and possibly burning...
The ones on Divers Den are reef safe. We have tacked them on to order from DD and been very happy with them. They are also Nikki's favorite invert as well. If you have a good LFS near you, talk to them when they get SPS shipments in. We have gotten them from trop in the past when they...
Good eye Darren. The Mtc can be a bit tough to dial in as the little needle wheel can be sensitive. Counting bubbles is the most accurate way to get it dialed in. We tested daily for three weeks or so when we first set it up. We conntinue to monitor it to make sure coral growth also does not...
Someone pmed me about what supplements we are adding to the tank for our SPS so I figured I would list it out for everyone. Again, our own personal experience on this, mileage may vary.
For calc, alk, mag:
We run the calcium reactor with carib sea course media. This has let us keep the alk...
Our guy is out pretty consistently. The blue spots have great personalities and rarely stay hidden all the way in the burrow. Our has had a burrow up front and a little towards the back which has been nice because we can see him. He does like to come out and swim though which is nice. The...
I don't think we have updated the fish we have in the system so I figured now would be a good time:
