I think you are talking about a stomatella here...if so, they are good.

I definitely would say snails…and my guess is Stomatella because of the patterning. Now the only question, do you have Stomatella snails in your tank?

I am very suspect of ANY plastics material that comes out of China. Having worked on a joint venture in China, I could not get “clean” plastic material from them. Otherwise, if buying cutting board material, just make sure it does not include antimicrobials. Some plastics in the food industry...

It’s really dependant on your sump setup. If you have too much rock / not enough flow / rock that is too small / too much crap coming down from the DT / who knows what…detritus builds up in the rock causing nitrates to rise. You could still have rock, just make sure it’s not becoming a nitrate...
