Welcome Sixline and blondebomb. Just a quick note we will have a beach cleanup at Sandy Hook this Saturday and a BBQ after nearby if you would like to come out and meet everyone.

I used Oolite for mine for what it is worth. Was a mess early but once you get the bacteria growing I don't get any more clouds than the next person.

Kit is a good one, I have a custom recirc skimmer with that pump and it is a heck of a pump. Great deal with the two pumps included.

That would explain the skimmer problem too. As you salinity raises you get better results.

I think it could help but I don't dose kalk so I am not the best person to ask. I am looking at it from the process point of view, if you start dosing kalk you are going to move the water parameters(of course hoping in the proper direction) which is going to destabalize your tank temporarily...

Calc is not so important at this point and is probably due to salt choice(?), but I would try to get my alk to a good level and mg as well and then make sure they stay stable for a week or two. You don't want to introduce it while you are fiddling with dosing, wait until you get a good handle...
