Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
You cant teach experience. You can train someone to scoop fish, but not to trouble shoot problems.
Yeh thats the case for me and one of the other guys too. Its great to cherry pick new arrivals and search for hidden goodies during slow periods
Not sure if i'm allowed to post this, but worth a try in case someone needs a job.
Trop in Ocean is looking for someone reliable who knows fresh, salt, and reef and wont flake out like the last employee. They are looking for full time. I know from experience that the employee discount is really...
I do not believe those are wrasses you have there. Looks to be juvenile blackfish or tog, Tautoga onitis. I'm sure no one will bother now that they are in captivity, but check local regulations before keeping undersized gamefish.
here is my 2 cents. Why not buy local and support your local fish store. Its alot less likely that you will be burnt. Fish stores all over are struggling in this economy and to order something from a warehouse just to save a couple bucks doesnt make sense to me.
I dont mean to bust your chops, but this cracks me up whenever I hear it. Thats its anus. I love when I hear a customer say "Woah something just came out of its eye!"
if you have a boat and cant catch up with stripers, stop at a nearby wreck with bucktails or clam baits for some sea bass and cod mixed in. We had over 100 sea bass topping out at 22" last sunday in 80ft of water on bucktails.
Not all bivalves secure themselves the way Tridacnas do. There are many burrowing clams that will use their foot for movement for example the many clams commonly found in a fish market (little neck, top necks, surf clams used for bait etc.)
ferric oxide is the same as iron oxide. It occurs when iron atoms bond with oxygen atoms. Unless the clamp is made of pure iron, then it is not the same as high purity granular ferric oxide (GFO) used in filtration. The clamp is most likely an alloy and could be dangerous to inhabitants if it...
just so we are clear, are the corals bleaching or losing tissue? either way, if it has started occuring suddenly, make sure nothing has occured recently that could cause stress like the above post a temp swing. Any bulb changes are duration changes, fish added, new anything?
Jimroth, I like odd ball hitch hikers and such. I thought it might be this species, but I am not positive http://www.nhptv.org/natureworks/squirreltreefrog.htm. Sadly, I have been unable to find the frog in the past week and I'm hoping he is just hiding deep in the bush and not passing through...
here are some pics of the 20. I dont have any of the 8 gallon yet. Note the tiny unidentified tree frog found on a plant shipment from FL.
Dark water perfect for amazonian species
I have those in my 20. I should post videos of my red fin pencil fish in this tank leaping to grab fruit flies meant for the tiny tree frog in this tank. For the 8 gallon, I wanted more courtship behavior so apisto seem to be the way to go. Rams require more room than I can offer in this tank...
last time i saw a video of people walking on exposed reef flats, a big wave came rushing in. :o Seriosuly there are some really good older pictures floating around, some are in Veron's coral taxonomy books, with reefs exposed. very neat.
