Carlo,
The alk reading yesterday was 3.2dKH or 1.14 meq/L
It's a Salifert test
The pH meter is a Hanah Pen type. I calibrated it last week with their solutions at 4,7, and pH 10
that all make sense?
Alk is WAY low

Right now i'm using coralife scientific grade. I really liked Crystal Sea's Bioassay Lab formula, but it's harder to find. I'll have to pick up some TM and check it out.
and just to clarify, my dKH is at 3.2 so Alk would be 1.2 meq/L
thanks

My GF has a D70 that I use more than she does, and I was wondering if anyone had a good macro lens they would recommend. I'm thinking 100mm would be great.
Her telephoto zoom has a macro setting at 300mm, but at that point its really hard to get enough light in, even with the halides on ;) and...
I'm assuming by your post that you have actinics on before/after you halides... You should get exactly what you want if you leave you MH on longer. You should probably do this slowly though, and not just instantly add 2 hours to their day. Mine go on from 4pm-1am so that i get the most out of my...
sponges growing on the LR is a good sign right? I just noticed a bunch of little q-tips showed up and the handful of sponge hitchikers i have are getting bigger...

So i've been having a problem with low alk for a little while. it regularly reads in the KH 3-5 range. I'm assuming this is also affecting my pH. I've been adding Kent Superbuffer dKH, and this helps, but doesn't seem to last very long. I also dose with Reef Vital DNA, Kent Coral-Vite, Essential...
sounds like a plan. i'll keep a lookout for something you could use inline, they aren't as common, but they're around. LMK if you need/want those fans. I pulled them out of old PC power supplies...

I have 2 AC PC fans if you want them, I also have some DC fans lying around.
where are you housing your mh ballast? if it's in the canopy you could slice the fans into the power going INTO the ballast. the wiring OUT of the ballast will only fry the fans. if you are placing the ballast...
I'm totally digging my silenx fans, but they are DC so you ahve to convert powet. i think you could get more bang for the buck if you arent as concerned about noise. I know people have used stanley blowers before, and i've heard they move massive amounts of air. No matter what you do, you'll...
I don't think you specifically need to spot feed mushrooms. If you feed the tank as a whole, they'll pick up whatever they can, but they do pretty well on their own. I've seen some impressive shrooms in refugiums before, so i wouldn't worry about it.
it should go away in a few hours. it's noted in the instructions that any slime inducing additives will cause this. Before i put it in my sump, i noticed it would do this if i had my hands in the tank for anything more than briefly. anything that breaks the surface tension will make it spew bubbles.
I saw the Julian Sprung brand at petsmart. they had green purple and red. The Nori is available most places. i bought it as seaweed salad by san fransico bay at petco. I have seen nori in the supermarket as well, but its a little harder to find that way i think
