i've used them both in SE lamps, and have found the reeflux 12k to be much more blue than the ushio 14k. the ushio 14k is what you would think a 10k lamp is supposed to look like. it's white to the naked eye.
i haven't seen the reeflux 20k.
what i didn't like was that most of the coral was browned out. i mean, there were maze brains and porites down there the size of volkswagens, but they were poop brown. the instructor said it was because the water was murky because of spawning season. i say it's because of something else.
not really...you can name them if you like ;)
just an update, since i went to mexico and took some pics while scuba diving, with the canon. the water was a bit murky, but i managed to get a few shots-
hey..there i am....
awesome pic duijver! and great info too!
meanwhile, there are hundreds of variations of bristles in our tanks...most of them harmless, and a great, free, cleanup crew. if you have a giant worm like that, and you aren't missing corals or fish, you are way overfeeding!
i would agree with you wendy up until i had something crazy happen. i grew a 1" frag of this color birdsnest to a nice colony over time and it looked great. one day a friend was over and asked me for a frag of it. as my hands were clean, i reached into the tank with the coral cutters and snipped...
agreed on the screen method, but raising the light doesn't take much away from the corals. thin air doesn't work like the screen method does. i used a PAR meter and moved it away from the bulb and it didn't change much till i hit the water.
thanks...my tank is nothing more than a coral holding tank now. i'm breaking it down and have sold off alot of the aquascaping already. i am waiting for the tank i used at macna to cycle. this will be my main display from now on. no more getting my armpits wet when i'm trying to get stuff off of...
it's also how they were collected. it they were exposed to air during the collection, i'm told the mortality rate is high. i didn't drip mine for more than an hour, and they are still going strong.
