great find. i had a feeling that some of the tissue loss may have been from this thing but wanted to be sure there wasn't some sort of Symbiosis even if it was only one sided.
haven't researched what this is yet but i figured i would post it up. I at one time thought it was a wierd growth even tried to peel it off and thought it would hurt the coral and left it. Now i looked today and the growth was moving!! the pictures are taken through a magnifying glass more...
used tech m on my tank since i had a few spots of bryopsis left. supposedly it's not necessarily the mag level but something in the Kent Tech M that kills off the algae..
worked for me!
how long have you had the skimmer running with the system and is it sitting in the right water level? they all have break-in periods. My MSX250 did this for a week or so also. it really needs the constant water level to sit in, small adjustments could take a while to see any effect and over...
can you put filterfloss or something over the hole temp? i would use some Seachem stress coat. should help him out a little. other than that not much you can do except keep your water params stable.

if it's into the "meat" of the fin then probably not but if just the thin part of the fin my sailfin and two yellow tangs always nipped at each other and within a day or two it grew back.
I jumped into the Vortech world as well with a MP40 and i love it. i haven't made a wave yet on the 120 but usually leave it in Reef Crest mode. The Space it takes up is nothing compared to the Koralia Magnum 6 i had before and i'll be getting another vortech in the near future.
