Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I started writing and ended up with a few things so I put them into categories. By no means does it cover everything but I think I got some of the most important things I've learned that affect skimming performance as a whole. Some things you may or may not be able to do depending on equipment...
I must be have a mental block on this because I can't figure out what the brace has to do with getting the sumps under. Why does there need to be a hole drilled in it? If it's to hard to explain or I'm just "out there" on this one just tell me to be quiet!

Nick, just to make it easier to relate to some of the stuff just mentioned in some of the previous posts, the baking soda you mentioned would be "Sodium bicarbonate" and the baked baking soda as you mentioned would be "Sodium carbonate". These would be related to the bicarbonate & carbonate...
Another though on cleaning the tank.
Take this for what it's worth considering my "appreciation" for water changes (or lack of) but I'd never personally do a 100% water change, ever, never, short of something like a massive dose of copper being dropped in the tank.
With that said, for an RBTA...
Could you do us a favor and briefly describe exactly what you are thinking/proposing to do crossbrace wise. It's not exactly clear if it's just being temporarily removed or actually modified etc...

Thanks Boomer, I was going insane trying to find that. Had I stopped and thought about it for 10 seconds I'd have realize the link just came up not to long ago. I guess the brain does start to loose functionality when you're approaching 50. :o ::)
I know the growth bands/rings part is true but...
It was Walt Smith who made the comment about the corals breaking from their own weight (go figure). He had mentioned that during excessive warm months the corals would grow so quickly that they became brittle and broke from their own weight. <-- something like that.

I've got a purple lobster that I added 6 months ago to a smaller tank and last week did some aquascaping to the tank and low and behold he was still there. This is about a 3" or so lobster and I NEVER see him.
I definitely see a lot more of my shrimp, especially at feeding time when they come...
R U looking for a model with computer interface which makes finding things quite easy or would you rather have all the money going into better optics?
Matt do you have a ballpark price range?
Carlo
That is still on the low side for specific gravity in a reef tank. You could top off with salt water until the SG gets back to a normal range. Raising the levels this way is pretty safe and easy to do.

I actually put my rock on top of some sand. Maybe 1/4". Not thick however. I find it helps give support to the rock itself and I can stack the rock without it falling over or wiggling much at all.
Once all the bottom rock is in place I'll build up the remaining sand bed to whatever height I...
I was going to post that link Mike. You won the race!
You know what I hate. This industry has been around long enough so companies get plenty of feedback on stands and things. WHY, WHY, don't they put a door on the side of the stand? Or offer it as an option/upgrade?
Most people could slide in...
Yes, most definitely have used it on a lot of tanks with good results. The key I believe where people "mess up" and don't get good results is in the placement of the media. You don't want to put it directly in a high O2 area. Some people put them in high flow canisters and such which isn't the...
