    Acclimation techniques....Lots of questions ??????

Phyl, I just keep a small 2 or 3 (don't remember size) gallon bucket handy and keep it stored in a kitchen trash bag when I'm not using it so it doesn't get dirty. Seems to work OK. I use one of the little AquaLifter pumps to do the drip with. Probably overkill for most people. A small 25/50...

    water temp

Some different research studies. Basically what they did besides the controlled growth studdies was to show cross section cuts of some different types of corals. You could see the growth rings of the corals similar to the rings in trees. During the cooler months the growth was slower but...

    What do you guys think?

My bad. I confused this with something else I was helping somebody with earlier where the skimmer was to tall and hitting the brace. I agree Matt, he should be able to tap it out and put it back after getting the sump in. Sorry about that, Carlo

    Acclimation techniques....Lots of questions ??????

For those with large sumps you can just put the acclimation bucket in the sump which will bring it up to tank temps. For those with smaller systems just use an old trashcan or bigger bucket and fill part way with tap water and put a heater in it. Then float your acclimation buck inside of it...

    What do you guys think?

Typical commercial stands are made for the cheapest amount they can be made for but engineered to handle the weight with as few boards and supports as needed. I'd be very leary of removing that type of brace if it's a common type stand ($100-$200 range). I wouldn't do it if it was mine. Carlo

    Bugs on my Zoos

If it's not a pod like Matt just showed (what they sound like to me) in his links then take a look at this thread and rule out Nudibranchs by looking at the pictures. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1109378&highlight=Flatworms+zoo Interesting thread BTW on killing...

    Ph. vs. ORP

Just have a cold bottle of "medicine" on standby to ease the pain. Preferably one of the green bottle meds! ;D Carlo

The question of PH comes up

Might be because of the rise and fall of the water level in the sump??? Tis a good question. Carlo

How do I raise my Alk levels

Are you buying? 8) Thanks much for permission to use that writeup JD. I guess, that means I'm buying. :P Carlo

    Ph. vs. ORP

Hope everything was helpfull. This is actually a "wopper" of a question to try and explain. Both pH and especially ORP are both very complex subjects by themselves let alone trying to explain the interaction of the two without getting "deep". It's probably the hardest to explain question I've...

    water temp

Yes, but you will probably need to drill a hole somewhere for the probe. Here is the home page: http://www.coolworksinc.com/iceprobe.htm The white part of the probe is what needs to touch the water. On the right side of the page is an owners manual where you can get a better idea about...

    water temp

Besides a fan basically only option is something like an IceProbe chiller for that size tank or keep the AC on and the room cooler. :) Carlo

    Ph. vs. ORP

Actually I use a VERY COMMON household product and it seems to be pretty accurate if you mix correctly. Keep in mind your use of ORP is relative to begin with. What I mean by that is that it's not like comparing pH on my system to pH on your system and saying we need to be in 8.2-8.4 range or...

    Acclimation techniques....Lots of questions ??????

Like Matt I test the source water for Ammonia. If there is Ammonia in the water I "lock it up" with some Seachem Prime before I do anything else. I don't have an exact time I do acclimate for. I use a slow drip method and keep an eye on PH, Salinity & Temp. When they all match my system I'm...

    Ph. vs. ORP

The Purigen (carbon too) can help raise ORP by removing waste/organics but I'd highly doubt to any large degree unless you just added fresh media. Without Ozone running I doubt you would be close to 410 mV. I'd agree with Boomer it's time to clean the probe and suggest a recalibration (pain in...

    Ph. vs. ORP

Already a couple of posts since I started this but since it's already typed. Trying to keep it simple or at least understandable but pH and ORP are both complex areas. I'll try and cover it from a few bases but keep it understandable. :) But first a NOTE: If you are using a Neptune controller...

How do I raise my Alk levels

I still think it was in reference the TOTAL AMOUNT but here nor there I agree with you it's very poorly worded at best! No sense discussing what was meant or not by that section since we both agree on how the statement would stand on it's own. I sold the Pinpoint O2 Monitor. :) I'm going back...
