Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Most new tanks go through several "cycles". The algae cycle can be one of them. If it's on the glass, scrape it off. If it's HA (hair algae), and you can easily reach it, yank as much out as you can. Reduce feeding and lighting, keep the water as clean as possible, several small water changes...
Brian & Debbie, I'm crying as I'm reading this, as it hits close to home. Cosmo is a beautiful boy, and you've given him the best life any pup could wish for.
Anyone who's had to "let go" knows that it's the hardest decision you will ever have to make. He is a part of your family, always will...
Yep, I needed both. :)
But now you've contributed to my (normal) confusion. I was under the impression that the Psychelic Mandarin = Spotted Mandarin = Synchiropus picturatus
and that the Green Mandarin = Striped Mandarinfish = Synchiropus splendidus
???
Anyway, I currently have the Green...
I added a Mandarin to my (old) 75 after several months, and never had issues with him. Even when my pod population was nearly non-existent after a red bug treatment he remained fat and happy. He did learn to take dethawed food right from the pipette. :) Unfortunately I lost him when I had a...
Don't do it! Especially if you ever want to put a clam in your tank, as they LOVE clams. From everything I've read, they can be kept with more "noxious" corals, like leathers, mushrooms, but it's best avoided for the reef tank.
Holy smokes! CONGRATS on your first B E A U T I F U L toadstool. And a Tyree at that! (Tyree = super pretty stuff)
You've gotta be in heaven now, Ryan! I'm so happy for you here!! ;D
Thanks Tony. Yes, that's them. Thank you for telling me what they're called. And thank you for letting me get some from you. They are absolutely gorgeous! They literally glow. ;D I recently moved them, and ever since then they look better than ever. You gotta stop by with Christine!
Rafal, sound perfectly normal. You could add some Cerith snails, they will devour it in no time. :) I hear you about the mad scientist part. I was doing the same thing in the beginning.
I literally abused the mushrooms I had in my 75. Ripped them out, cut them up, chiseled on 'em, etc - mostly done while in the tank to avoid avalanches. The lesson I learned was that in no time at all I had mushrooms popping up all over the place. Boy are they resilient. :o
You have to GENTLY turn the thing in the front, where the impeller sits under, and it will come off. Then you can clean up the impeller and the rest of the inside. I had a Quiet One 4000 for my 75 and absolutely loved that thing. Never had a problem with it whatsoever.
Phyl, if you can't hook up with Steve, then I'll bring you some of my Tyree Undata. ;D It's in urgent need of being fragged, but I just haven't had the nerves to do it yet.
