RBTA - not in great shape - free

I have an RBTA that I moved to my fuge. I have a perc in there that was being abused by my GSMC. Anyway I have one that split and they then split so with 4 I thought the perc would appreciate 1. Well the perc doesn't care and the nem doesn't like the light on the fuge so it's NOT happy there...

    How do I do this

I upload to photobucket (free account) and then paste in the "IMG" link in the post. It's worked every time for me. You can also use the camera icon but that's usually a smaller pic and may only work with the type of phone I have.

    Monti cap bleaching.

the remaining 'frags" appear to have tissue receding still. Hopefully I won't regret having left it in (well the frags) the tank. Does anyone recognize the stuff from the underside pictures? Like I said I'm thinking vermitid snails but as much as I think of them as a pest - I really thought...

    Monti cap bleaching.

Took it out and all I found were what looked like small vermitid snails. It's a little easier to see in the second pic but in person they looked like spiraling calcified tubes. I pulled the piece, broke off what I could and tried to get the snails off, gave it a coralRx bath followed by a...

    Monti cap bleaching.

I'm not sure what to make of it... Po4 was 0.01 and Alk was at 10 dkh (which is a bit high I guess, but actually down from its peak a few weeks back - I added a small CaRx and had too much CO2 going in. Anyway, that was weeks ago and I slowly brought it down from 12-13 down to at or below 10...

    Monti cap bleaching.

Anyone have a guess why this cap started bleaching. Parameters are stable and nothings different in the tank. 2 days and it's more than 1/3 gone...

    Skimmer break-in

Thanks Jim. I did find that but didn't find the 2 pages all that helpful. Merely saying "wait 3-4 weeks" seemed a bit over simplified in my opinion. They also say 6"-10" depth as long as the outlet isn't covered. Well I'm at 5.75" and it's 2/3 covered/submerged so that leads me to believe its a...

    Skimmer break-in

I have a few things to try - thanks. I'll start with adding a piece or two of egg crate to my stand and raise the skimmer/lower the depth 3/8" at a shot. I only have about 3/4" clearance or I'll be hitting the underside of the stand Jim. I think if I come that close to the collar (meaning the...

    Skimmer break-in

This skimmer ran in another tank since it was purchased in 2010. Unless something was used to clean it by the seller anything from mfg should be gone.

    Are actinics critical to coral?

Maybe I'll have a chance to pull it off today and see what the problem is. I'm guessing it has something to do with the bulb. I changed one last week. I moved the newer of the old 2 to the back spot and put the new one up front. Guessing it has something to do with that.

    Skimmer break-in

Can someone possibly explain to me this concept? I have a new (to me, but used) skimmer that I've had installed for about 10 days. It's a SRO XP2000 which is a large needle wheel cone skimmer. It's recommended depth is 5.75" which I believe I have satisfied. I reached out to the mfg and they...

    Are actinics critical to coral?

I had an issue with my cr@p light today. I found one of my GFI circuits blown and traced it to my actinics. Fixture is one of those coralife twin 150W HQI jobbies with 2 cf actinics. (also 4 led moon lights). I'll have to see what I can do to fix it or repriorotize my DIY led build. Anyway in...

    cyanobacteria killers

I've definitely seen the conch eat cyano but like I said - it works on "its" schedule. the LFS said my tanks likely too small for more than one (90g) and it's a bull dozer - I've had to take everything except my clam off the sand bed because he will move anything that sits where he feels like...

    cyanobacteria killers

I did get a conch. It has a bad attitude. It works on its terms when IT feels like it. Every time I think it's dead, it pops up and bulldozes the sand bed. Where did you get the cuke? Aquarium Center? I asked at THR and 2 people there said the cukes they had would pretty much ignore the sand...

    cyanobacteria killers

Anyone have experience with any of the cyanobacteria killers? I am struggling with the extra natural light I’m getting. I've been siphoning off substantial sheets pretty regularly. If I vacuum the sand bed I can get about 60-75% - it’s hard to be efficient with my make-shift siphon. With it...

Like a glove :) ... Complete with the majestic halo Pump is in, intake facing down ...and enough clearance up top for, ...well, ...maybe a sheet of paper Have you ever tried to fit 10 lbs of #%*€ in a 5 lb bag? (can kind of see the DIY silencer.)

    Dave’s 90g learning-curve glass room experiment

At this point that's my biggest concern - I may need to do something on the surface to break up a vortex like a piece of plastic or maybe eggcrate over top of it. I could also recreate the same idea with the pump facing down. I would just need a longer hose for the venturi and flip the...
