    HOB vs. Cabinet

HOB fuges aren't normally going to have as much room in them for sure. But to me the more important thing is that it's a lot easier to use reverse lighting on the fuge if it's under the tank then on the back of it. Using reverse lighting helps keep the pH more stable. Obviously you've thought...

    Heater issues?

That would be a most excellent way to do it. You'll also have a lot of other functions available with the AquaController too.

    Heater issues?

Welcome to my world Damon! I seem to be the king of heater failures. You have the same problem I see all the time. The heater comes on but fails to turn off. This is the reason I always suggest using 2 (or more) smaller heaters then one big heater. So in the event of a heater failure you don't...

    HOB vs. Cabinet

In which setup would you be able to use the "best" skimmer and/or overall equipment? For #2 do you already have a sump and if not were you going to build your own or use a manufacture product? Is so which one (any idea yet)? How big will the sump be in #2 and what size will the refugium be in...

    HOB vs. Cabinet

Hey mantis32, could you elaborate on a couple of things? In option #1 is the protein skimmer a HOB or sump model? I'm guessing a HOB by the comments at the bottom. In option #2 is the protein skimmer a HOB or sump model? In option #2 what is on the side of the tank? In option #2 what else is in...

    Swimming Pool ?

No to baking powder. You can use baking soda or washing soda in the laundry section of the supermarket(baked baking soda) or a mixture of the two. The washing soda will raise the pH a lot with only a little change in alk. It's the same as in our aquariums. I use these two products in my...

    Thinking of going skimmerless...

You have good rock. Good light Caribbean rock is probably more on the order of 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 better in it's ability to host internal bacteria compared to everyday Fuji rock you usually see in stores. Obviously more rock is always better (from a bacteria hosting standpoint) but that would go...

    Thinking of going skimmerless...

Absinthe, The normal "rule of thumb" is 1.5-2 lbs of live rock per gallon of water. Ignore any rules of thumb for sand and just use what looks good to you. In your particular case you are a little less then 1 lb of rock per gallon of water. Ideally if you want to go skimmerless you should try...

    My first flood...

Thanks. I gotta pick one of those up. My flood alarm needs about a 1/16"-1/8" of water before it sounds which stinks. Does this unit beep or give any indication when the batter is getting low? Thanks, Carlo

    My first flood...

About 6 months ago I made a quick adjustment to my skimmer while running out the door at my 3rd floor apartment. A few hours later I come home to a note on my door. :) While adjusting my skimmer, I hit the tube coming from a phosban reactor and knocked it out of the sump. I got my downstairs...

    my world crashed

I have been through it, although it's different for everyone. I was married for 11 years and we were together several years before that. My kids were 9 and 8 at the time of the separation. Best "advise" I can give you is to try and be as "level headed" as you can be and control your anger around...

    Cayars New Tank

Here's a pic of 6 QT tanks in use. Here's a pic of some new Zoas Frag arrivals. Each bag had 2 frags in it individually bagged. There is a total of about 70 frags in those bags! These frags weren't going into that tank but were just getting temp acclimated.

    375g MONEY PIT!

Even with the expectation of a few blackened fingers I don't think 3 guys are going to safely move a 375! Another guy and myself moved my 265 up 3 steps and about 20 feet and I'll tell you that was definitely the limit IMHO for a 2 guy move unless they are built like gorillas! Tanks definitely...

    Cayars New Tank

Oh yea, lots of corals and fish in the tank. I'm working on more plumbing today to get the 120 aggressive tank hooked up and online later tonight/tomorrow and getting that filled up. I had purchased the fish Billy98 had for sale and they are coming out of QT in 2 days so I need to get everything...
