Are you doing a DSB? If so, you might want to avoid any sand sifting critters, i.e. Gobies (Valenciennea), Sea Stars, Sand Dollars, etc. since they will prey on the life forms that keep your DSB healthy.

I would take the Pukani, and hose it off, etch it in a solution of water and vinegar 50/50 for a couple days, hose it off again, and place it in a container/tank with freshly made SW, and go through the curing process, checking for PO4. As Brian mentioned lights aren't going to do you any good...
