Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I would continue running the skimmer, GFO and GAC. You could probably decide between the fuge and/or bio-pellet reactor, since you most likely don't need both. I opted to take the fuge off line when I started running bio-pellets.
I usually take my PH's and/or pumps and run them in a solution of 50/50 vinegar and water and throw in other pieces I want to clean. If you have some pieces that are really stubborn to clean you can increase the strength to 100% vinegar. The movement of the water will clean most of it off with...
Have you adjusted the gate valve? The water level should be about 1" below the collar in the chamber. Are you getting enough air? Try removing the tube from the silencer.
Actinic light promotes the growth of Zoaxanthellae algae, essential for the growth and well-being of all photosynthetic corals and invertebrates (not macro algae). So, they are used to promote coral and invertebrate growth. But, they are also used to accentuate the fluorescence.
The AquaC EV 120 is far from the latest designs, but it's a pretty bullet proof skimmer and as long as its installed properly and you keep the injectors clean, will give you good service.
You could use "high efficiency" pumps, but they tend to be expensive up front. You have to heat your water anyway, so if heat is your only objection, as long as you don't have to start using a chiller, you'll be OK. I'm running all individual pumps for three reactors, skimmer, and two returns...
I prefer the redundancy of multiple pumps, but make sure you are using as few fittings as is practicable. You may be trying to do too much, with a single pump.
Accepted rule of thumb for "safe" flow through a 1" overflow bulkhead fitting is 600 gph, so a Mag 18 would work. Are they barbed hose fittings? If so, I would suggest feeding it into a 1" piece of flexible tube, using a reducing bushing, and then add a 1" to 3/4" 'Y' fitting to 3/4" flexible...
I have just listed these on CL and E-bay @ $300
Will sell here for $265.00 ea. or both for $ 250.00ea.
I would calculate one for every 2 ft of tank surface area.
