I used a couple of Tunze pumps, along with some 3" PVC fittings and pipe to facilitate water movement around the overflow chambers in the bottom of my tank, and behind/through the rock.
I use marbles to keep mine in place, I haven't lost any yet. I also just rinse them out, and like Paul, just rub them between my hands, but I do soak them for a couple of days in a solution of bleach, rinse them again and hang them up to dry.
I think 200 micron is pretty standard regardless of mesh or felt. I started with felt, but found it difficult to get clean, so I now use the mesh type. Another skimmer option might be the Bubble Magnus NAC 7, but make sure you get one with the pin wheel impeller. Earlier versions had a mesh mod...
Depends on how far you have to trailer it. But it doesn't have to be E10 (Ethanol). All gas sold at the dock is E10, so I have to use a fuel stabilizer every time I get gas(adds about $.60 per gallon).
My other hobby is a hole in the water, and although it's relatively small it still holds 82 gallons of gas, that's going to be fun to fill up. Gas at the dock is always much more expensive that at roadside stations. :jaded::nightmare:
Densely packed rock can cause problems. I would try to create as many caves and arches as possible to allow water to flow through and behind the rock. I used 3" PVC pipe and fittings to help with this.
I need to make room for a new aqua scaping and will be selling these two pieces.
The Zoa/Paly rock is about 10 - 12 inches across relatively flat on the bottom and covered with a combination of Green and Fire and Ice zoa's along with Watermellon Paly's.. And, a large colony of Tri color Valida...
Not necessarily, but if you were I was going to suggest that you cut back until the "snotties" disappeared. In that case, in the interest in keeping an unimpeded flow going, I would clean it out.
