I'm not too familiar with chillers, as my tank stays at about 78 degrees without one (thank God!), but could you run the pump after the chiller and turn the temp down a bit on the chiller, so that the cold water cools the pump?
Nice looking tank!
Nanos are fun. They're just like bigger tanks, but with less room. ;)
On the mushroom thing, I've had several mushrooms just kind of melt off a rock because they didn't like they way they were saying, and it looked like an oozing piece of old gum or something, but where...
Well:
I have no cleaner shrimp, and at the current salinity of 1.019, I probably wouldn't have one very long...but I know what you mean. ;)
John,
Gimme a year with the lil guy and when he totally outgrows my tank, you can have him, gratis. ;)
I stopped by the lfwis (local fish with ich store) today on my way home from lunch to do a little browsing, and the first fish i noticed was a 2 inch powder brown with ich REAL bad. I felt awful, and the sticker said $49.
So, I asked the owner what his plan was, and yadda yadda, he sold it to...
Well, as far as lighting, since it's in tank, it would just be fine with the normal tank lighting, as chaeto doesn't need as much light as most corals...or rather will grow just fine under lower lighting conditions.
You can't hang it on the back?
The problem with intank fuges is that they are either too small to be useful (as is the case with larger tanks) or they take up valuable real estate, as is usually the case with nanos.
At least, so I've heard. I threw an aquafuge on the back of my 29g, and it...
Just as a point of reference:
29g AGA tank: ~$60
CPR Aquafuge with pump and yadda yadda: ~$50 (used...come up all the time here and on manhattanreefs)
2 powerheads of your choice: ~$50
175-250 W Metal Halide setup: ($75 ballast, $25 socket/reflector, $60 bulb): $160
Grand total for equipment...
My temp went down from my PC setup to my 175w setup.
Of course, instead of a uv shield about 3 inches over my water, my bulb is now about 7 inches above the water, and I've a good sized (6") fan in there, too.
Former temp was 80-82, now 78 steady.
:)
I bought a 175 ballast/setup for my 29g. It looks good, but I don't think 250w would be overkill, either.
Depends on your setup, and what you want to keep. And, I guess, your building skills or the $$$ you have to spend on a pre-built hood.
I just bought a hamilton ballast and a 175w 14k bulb and a pfo reflector, made a hood and stuck a clip-on-the-bed-post type of fan by it. The bulb is probably 7 inches from the water, and my tank temps have been staying round ~78.
Loving the upgrade from the PCs I used to run.
:)
Mynd,
In the photography section, I posted a thread entitled 'progress', which has about 30 fts's in a row from the time i set up my tank until a few days ago. It's really like a progression of algae. ;)
