I put 2 Lil Fishies 2 part right into my top off water. So for it's been working great. Just bought a jbj ATO today, so that should make it even better!
Mynd,
You think the diatoms are just because your tank is so new, and will keep on for a little while anyhow, so you should just let them roll until they are done?
Seems like you're worrying too much about something that, in essence, is just life developing as it normally should in your tank...
I bought a 3/4 inch long sea hare and 6 hermits while I was there. I considered adding another fish, but...hard to pick, as one more fish will leave me with 'full stocking', or so I assume.
My algae is starting to recede. I think it's a combo of the CUC and the RO/DI, honestly.
Here's a couple...
2x6750k and 2x actinic.
I sat and stared at the tank for a few hours yesterday and have to say...it's already grown on me...loving it.
My greens are the biggest change. My BTA is now green instead of orange and some mushrooms that were kind of brown are now neon green.
:)
I'm a reefer, straight up. Multiple definitions. Loving the salwater.
My 1 inch clown attacked my hand yesterday when it got too close to his BTA. Makes me love the little guy even more. ;)
I need to do something about the light spilling out the back/sides. I don't mind the shimmer on the wall above the tank, but the bright light on the sides is no good. I also need to match the curtains to the carpet, if you know what I mean...I plan to wrap the metal stand in wood to match...
Do metal halide bulbs break in or anything? I was really expecting my tank to be a lot brighter with the 175watter in there. I mean, it's not dim by any means...just not as bright as expected.
And not as blue as I'd hoped.
Hamilton Tech Magnetic 175w ballast
14k Hamilton bulb
PFO parabolic...
Ed, question:
We're trying to clear out a basement to have a new floor installed (hopefully heated floor...not sure yet) and then I'm going to build walls up against the brick.
Just wondering if you could outline the process. I believe you'd put some plastic on the wall, then some foam...
Looks nice!
As a shade-tree furniture builder, I would give you a word of advice on bonding and strength:
Always use wood glue.
Even if you just put a little on each joint and still use screws, it will be a helluva lot stronger. Generally a wood-glued joint is stronger than the wood around...
Thanks, guys. I ended up buying:
175w Hamilton Ballast
175w 14k Hamilton Bulb
Mogul Socket and relfector
And if I can ever get these dang cars running, I'll be building a nice canopy too!
I'm pretty excited for the change to metal halide...I think the shimmer is 'the stuff'.
:)
In all fairness, Harry, and nothing against you, any fish can have ich, and if it doesn't go through a proper qt, you take a risk. I learned that the hard way too.
I just purchased what I believe to be all the parts to a 175w metal halide setup, and that's pretty much what i bought.
Well, also some wood, a few fans, 12v adapters for said fans.
:)
I learned the hard way, as I think many do. I lost almost all my fish to a nasty ich breakout, it really sucked, and i ended up having to set up an entirely new tank to wait out the old one.
Of course, then i broke down and sold all the parts of the old tank, sooo...I guess in the end it turned...
