One of the biggest reasons to QT a fish before putting it in your tank is to reduce the chance of spreading infections to the tank itself.
For example, say this fish had ich. You put him in your tank, the parasite lays the eggs, and they drop off into the rocks, the sand, etc. Now you have a...

So, wait...
You've spent all this time making sure everything is as perfect as possible, and you didn't QT that little guy for at least a few days..?
??? ???
Thanks for the reply.
My replies...also in no particular order:
I was thinking the reflector turned in the direction I first mentioned to better dispurse the light over the 30 inch wide tank. Which way gets the best dispersion: the sides of the relector or the front/back of the bulb? My guess...
Hey guys,
I recently decided to give halides a shot, and got such a good deal on a ballast that I'm going to build a hood.
But...I have some questions.
First I'll outline my (tentative plans)
I'm planing on making the thing out of wood. I have some pine left over from my entertainment stand...
Hey kids,
I decided I'd like to replace the unknown age bulbs in my Hamilton hood, which consists of 4x german-pinned 55w CF bulbs. The cheapest I found is straight from Hamilton, for $25 each, with another $10ish for shipping.
That's $110 for just bulbs, which will last what...6 months?
So...
Hey Bill,
A guy up the road from me is looking to get rid of 2 of his fish, but he's had them so long that he wants to make sure they go to a good home. His current tank is ~180ish, and he has a Naso tank that's at least a foot long (with nice streamers), and another tang, which looks like a...
My little dog is scared of thunder.
Everytime the thunder clapped, he moved closer to me. I actually fell asleep for a few minutes and woke up and he was inside my colon.
Weird.
;)
Hey guys,
Upon reading some of your experience with these guy's RO/DI units, I purchased on on a buy it now auction on ebay.
I bought the ro/2di unit.
Well, when i got it in the mail, they sent me the wrong one. They sent me a more expensive unit with a holding tank and a faucet.
Well, I...
My xenia was looking not so well the other day, so I did some tests. Everything was in check except my salinity somehow had gotten up to 1.030ish. I think when I went away last weekend, my house sitter probably used SW instead of fresh for top off. Xenia looked terrible, but came right back once...
When I first decided to set up a saltwater tank, and way before i found out about njreefers, reefcentral, manhattan reefs, I posted on a message forum (maybe reefs.org or something).
The answer that I got was astounding:
"Get some macro. That's all you really need."
Macro?
Macro lens...
Nope. You're big time with all that water.
That's like 3x the volume of my tank, and I'm pushing the nano-limits!
:)
PS - Frilly shroom and frogspawn still lovin' life! :)
That really depends on the amount of foodstuffs for them. If you overfeed and have lots of algae and detritus, you could probably keep more than one per gallon. If you have a relatively clean tank you'll probably want to keep it to maybe one per 3 gallons...maybe less.
Thanks.
Phyl, you were the one who actually told me it was a leather, when you were handing me my loot. :)
I have no idea what it is, I'll have to do a little research on Psammacora. :)
Still running on nothing but flow, light and macro. Everything looked so good that I wanted to do a little update.
Some kind of leather I won in a NJReefers raffle. I believe the light tips are indicitive of new growth.
This guy likes to hide and has really no impact on my algae growth that...
