Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Of course not! Could you imagine!? I think Greg just has a really funny sense of humor. Dry humor. Some people don't get it.
The funniest dry humor I've ever heard was when talking a guy where John used to work. When introduced to him he exclaimed "OH! I've seen pictures of you in John's desk...
This company at MACNA had an LED lighting solution that would burn your eyes right outta your head. The reflectors in his fixture reflected each LED from 4 points around the LED so each LED looked like a collection of (at least) 5 bulbs. It was amazing what the reflector did for that fixture. I...
We emptied a 35 and moved it all into a 65 in 3 hrs time, never saw a cycle. If your rock and system was bio-capable before the move you will be bio-capable after the move as well. We recently moved our 120 into a 180. There's a big difference between counting on "live" rock to be capable of...
Your mag7s are water cooled regardless of whether or not they're sitting IN the water, so while you may find that it is a tad cooler you're not going to notice a 2-4* drop or anything of the sort. They are definitely contributing to your heat problem. Can you eliminate one of them all together...
I have all sorts of euphellia strains next to each other coexisting happily from hammer to frogspawn to octo. They seem to get along very well. Cool photo.
The "stuff" still on the rocks might be enough to cause a cycle for you (something you want to do as your tank starts off so that you have some bacteria in the tank to process the fish waste). If it isn't you'll need to add an ammonia source (ammonia, coctail shrimp, etc) so that the cycle can...
Phosban, rowafas (sp?), GFO.
We run it in a Phosban reactor from TLF. It works very well. We did a group buy on it a few months back and I believe Billy still has some 5# lots for 32$ available to members.
While splitting it into smaller doses is a good idea to level the swing, it doesn't solve the primary problem. The ratio of CO2 to Alk is causing PH swings. With a higher CO2 you could have a higher alk and lower PH. With the levels of CO2 currently in your system if you raise your alk your PH...
Which is why everyone who runs one has it connected to a ORP probe, to measure the levels and shut it down if the levels get too high. Procede with caution. The risks can DEFINITELY outweigh the rewards in this case. Not to mention you are probably bubbling a lot of the o3 out right into you...
Your alk is definitely low. That's what is encouraging the swings. An alk closer to 11 will slow those swings down. The best way to add alk without increasing your PH is to start up a Ca reactor, IME.
Aww. Sorry to hear about your loss. Nothing worse than a jumper making a point of getting out of the SMALLEST of holes.
I had an angel jump up onto a cross brace once. :'( It made it 90% across the brace and stopped. What a sad sight.
Get the kick arse skimmer now, save up for the tank next. No point in having an SPS tank with an underpowered skimmer. If you're looking for a 210 you should plan to skim 500.
