I think the instructions on the Ca reactor say to start with 1 bps I'd probably be inclined to drop your bubble count in half (3-4 bps) so that the swings are slower and more controlled. Glad it had the desired effect! Keep us posted.

Looks like a hydnophora. I've found some of them prefer less intense light and that's probably what's allowing it to be happier like that. Enjoy! Mine are all under 12k Reeflux, but have been under everything from PCs to 10Ks at one time or another!

Will you also be running actinics with it? If so then I'd say you're fine. If not you may find a bit of darkness on your tank front/back. If you have GREAT reflectors (AKA luminarcs) you can get away without the extra actinic bulbs as I think the light throw on those is closer to the 30".
