The flow thru my sump is slow so the water noise is relatively mute. But chaos makes a good point about the top helping to cover. Also a canopy helps to cover a lot of...
No chiller...i'm hoping not to. But if I ever switch to MH then maybe I will. Even a brick of T5s might generate more heat than the current LEDs i have. Don't get me started on that - EOL product. Sigh.
Anyways - first some open top shots for junk.
I'll post more pics of the critters when...
Well thanks to everyone that replied to my post about my cuke:

I thought for sure I got rid of him (either via death and eaten by the cleanup crew OR because I sold some LR and thought he was on it) - but sure...
that's true. But I have a jawfish and a firefish - both considered carpet surfers in my tank - and it's been fine for 3 months now. Hardly a scientific sample but just pointing it out. I think if i put in a (pugnacious) pseudochromis - i'd have two fish on the floor in 2 seconds flat.
that...
i thought arrow crabs would take out bristle worms and feather dusters. Not sure though if they go for other corals but i'd imagine like all mobile inverts - they may opportunisticly take food out of a coral polyp.
thoroughly cleaning it constantly defeats the purpose of the skimmer. It need a break-in period of time and thoroughly cleaning it will just re-set that timer in my opinion.
if this is the model with the gatevalve - you need to adjust the gate valve. If that's already done - unscrew the air...

hey it was my first time there...i just know it was a 400w MH on top of a shallow frag tank. The rail definitely moved left to right / right to left. Again I didn't look at it carefully because I couldn't stop staring at all the frags. I will be back...
imagine a chocolate/white striped serpent star with a small hole right in the middle of it's body. Almost looks like somebody took a screwdriver and pushed it right down the middle and dug the meat out.
To me it's hard to know the sequence - was the hole that caused the death - or did it die...
i'm not a brittle/serpent star expert so it's just pure guess on my part. I've seen the other true starfish disintegrate due to lack of feeding - so I am guessing.
oh and a mantis would not do that to the best of my knowledge. I don't even think harlequins would pick at a serpent star.
i have a 120 with open top. Main reason for that is because our house tends to get very warm in the summer and I wanted the additional openness for evap. Also because I'm relatively short it was a real pain to get on a step ladder to do anything in the tank.

smcooler uses a light rail on his frag tank. I stupidly didn't realize the thing moved and he was like - back up or your hair will catch on fire...LOL!
I've never had a ferret but an alternative would be to pick one up at a shelter.
http://petfinder.com/
I located a guinea pig shelter and went with my family to "rescue" a pair.
I noticed they also have ferret listings for other shelters. Just type in ferret in the search bar and your zip and...
i have heard of ceriths spawning (congrats!) - mine would just lay those squiggly eggs but nothing ever came from them before they were decimated for their shells by my blue-legged hermits.
Anyways - my only caveat here is - you are sure they are baby ceriths and not say rissoid snails or worse...
Detritus is the word we use...
just for the record i used tap water on my old 55 gallon and it worked fine. Mind you I didn't have tridacnid clams or sps corals - but all of my fish and softies were totally fine. The gorgonians especially seemed to proliferate. The usual mushrooms and zoas...
join the club! ;D the behavior of fish in the ocean where they show schooling unfortunately does not translate here in the glass box. Even that guy with the 4000 gallon tank will not be able to get his 40 tangs to "school". Just doesn't happen like in the ocean. Oh they will school to your...
I just had both my cars go thru inspection. As usual there were two people working the line. The guy in the front was fast smooth and a professional.
The second gentleman (the one who actually drove your car) could care less about being there, was more concerned about people using their $10...
