    chalices receding fast

If you are concerned about stoichiometry, and the balance with the calcium part, it actually takes 594 grams of baking soda (about 1.3 pounds), or, as Randy Holmes Farley's recipe states, 2 1/4 cups. Spread this out on a baking sheet and bake at 350 for an hour. The baking drives off carbon...

    WTB ~300 gph return pump

First off, I have no pump to offer......just my two cents. If you end up having to purchase new, I would highly recommend the Cobalt MJ1200.....pumps 295 gph. This is the original Maxijet pump made by the original Italian company....a workhorse of a pump. The newer Marineland Maxijet...

Tidbits I started working on the doors for the cabinet today, played with the skimmer pump and impellers. and started sanding the stand in anticipation of painting that flat black. I made the final decision on the door for the upper part of the cabinet. I simply screwed the door parts...

Yet Another Vortech Power Holder After yesterday, sort of a laid back day today. Put the furniture back, cleaned up, and did a couple small things on the cabinet. Cut the grove for the pH wire a bit deeper....and while I had the shelf out, took a picture of the inside of the Belly of the...

Thanks for the kind words @BuGG . Here's the Reader's Digest version just for you: I built an equipment cabinet. Came out good! Still need to build the doors. :D @greybolt03 , thanks for your generous offer. However, with Amazon Prime, I had the new pump yesterday, and I'm already...

Lights, Holes and the Final Paint The power strips for the nine light plugs arrived last night, and so they were installed today. One strip for the "White" channel, one for the "Blue" channel, and one for the moon lights. The holder for the Vortech voltage supplies also installed in this...

Thanks Joe for the heads up. However, the issue with these pumps is that Bubble Magnus had to redesign their bubble plates for these new replacement pumps to fit. Don't know if they still sell the "upgrade" kit, but it was pretty costly to do this upgrade when Via Aqua (actual manufacter of...

Thanks for the info, but I'm not familiar with rock series pumps......do you have a link? I'm now thinking if I can't find a replacement pump for this Atman, I'm going to start looking for yet another skimmer. This morning I still had a lingering odor of whatever came out of that...

Atman Down Right Stinks! Got up today, excited that this cabinet is close to being finished. Power strips have been shipped, and should be here tomorrow. Started measuring and laying out all the holes I need to drill, when I go into the fish room to see the lights aren't ON. What the...

Thanks Kevin. I'm also getting antsy, wanting to get this thing done. What I'm working on today is drilling holes and reviewing what needs to be done to smoothly do the transfer. I'm trying to avoid any more "Doh's!" when the transfer goes down. The one thing I just realized is the...

    Refugium light

Agree with Jim (@downbeach ). You can use LED or compact fluorescent, but with either, what's important is that the temperature of the bulb is between 5000 to 6500 kelvin.

Well, change of heart on the upper cabinet portion, which was going to have all the light outlets. What I originally planned in my head was to install three, 4 gang outlets on that false wall and have holes were the plugs could come through to plug into the respective outlets. I'm talking...

While I was searching for 1/4 plywood for the doors, I found a nice piece of 5/8 furniture grade plywood that I decided to use for the equipment boards. These were rough cut out and I also made cutouts of the equipment to play with placement. I'm pretty sure I'll mount the power strip...

Yes to water and yes to sand if that sand was new as well. Shouldn't be a problem.....but still need to wait however much time for the tank to cycle (and rock to cure if it was dry rock.)
