Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
Bax/blange have been in this a lot longer than me so I'm not questioning their expertise.
The observation of iodine impact on the clams is an interesting one and I hope to experiment with that in the future myself (once i have enough funds to...
I am not a hydor koralia user - but i imagine the answer depends on whether you use the controllable version or not. Also depends if you plan on having any SPS in the tank and how deep this sand bed is going to be.
Now if I were designing a shallow sand bed (less than 2 inches) of say .5~1 mm...

gorgeous pics - thanks for sharing. I know the weather up in the cd area can get very cold - are you using a lot of heaters in the tank or is the house just naturally warm?
Also - in the FTS I can only see a pair of firefish -the others are hiding (i hope?). Reason I ask is that I'd love to...
welcome to NJRC everyone!

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
sorry to hear about the firefish...I have an open top also (as you noticed) and like bax says - jumper are jumpers...the question is - what is causing the startling/spooking. I dunno. One would hope that 24 inches of height in a tank would help...
Re: AGA 120 (very few pictures and lots of dull writing)
we shall see! The main reason I liked it was that it could be run externally. The sump I have doesn't have a large foot print internally to take an in-sump skimmer (at the least the size I'd like). I am still trying to figure out the...
Re: AGA 120 (very few pictures and lots of dull writing)
You can't "remove" the overflow - at least not the big black AGA overflows. With the tech all four bulkheads/pipes reside in a single overflow - this allows for more variety/options when aquascaping.
That stated - I like to use Bax's...
welcome to NJRC chuck! If you have a chance feel free to intro yourself over on one of the "new to the hobby threads".
I'm not sure what you mean by cartridge filter- but if I had the choice between getting a reef ready tank (pre-drilled) and one that required a HOB filter - I'd go with the...
This is not my research - but according to Ash (who I think retired from icecap) - T5s when driven by an electronic icecap ballast will last anywhere from 12 ~ 24 mths.
while they are supposedly harmless - in large numbers (like any "good" thing) - it can be a mess. Look for a small thorn like tube....that is the worm's home and it will spew out the mucus to both reproduce and capture food. I've read that some hermits will eat them and it'***** and miss with...
This thread has gone way beyond the intent of the OP.
junk - if you need more info on an LFS - please feel free to scan thru the review section or retailer experiences. Or start a new thread. Apologies for having to lock this one.
Only an issue if you have sand - but like harlequin mentioned - you could set it on a controller. The new one 7096 is supposed to be released this month or next.
Or you could cut the flow in half by using the old 6000 transformer (aka hockey puck).
how big is the tank?
Are you pruning a lot of macro out of the refugium? Maybe try accelerating the growth of the macro to counter the growth of the cyano.
Also i recall you had some clams to help in the fug - are those gone now or still working?
