Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I would scan our fs/ft posts and see if someone has a refractometer for sale. You won't be able to post a want to buy post just yet, but you can reply to existing posts.
If not - you might be able to grab one at our frag swap (if one of the many vendors coming has one for sale).
That all...
Roger, from Tunze had posted that 50 new waveboxes were shipped to the US. I knew Reef Exotics was one place and as a sponsor of the club - I figured I'd see if I could shop there for one.
It took i guess 2 days for Reef Exotics "share" (i guess maybe they got 5 or 10?) to sell out at a retail...
it's weird that you are showing ammonia. Is it possible to bring a sample to Trop and ask them to test for ammonia?
Ammonia is typically a sign that your tank is cycling...or your test isn't right.
Was the popcorn at the meeting? Dang I always miss the good stuff. ;)
Sorry to hear about your first tank. i've had my share of damsels die and frankly it wasn't a good time. You may say they weren't expensive but back when I had them it was my allowance and frankly regardless of the expense...
thanks guys....i also read prettyboy's new thread...maybe he'll chime in here too.
Anyways - I'm thinking of wiating until after the frag swap to purchase a skimmer (maybe an octopus will be raffled! haha). Just doing the research now I guess.
It's too bad I can't wait until 2009 when macna...
Ryan - fish tolerate a lot more than inverts or corals. Just because a fish is surviving in a tank -doesn't mean the water is good. An extreme example is placing a fish in freshwater bath/dip. It will be fine for a short period of time. On the other hand - that would probably be lethal to a snail.
tank could become extremely cloudy and generally speaking make a mess of your water parameters.

with regards to the cerith snails - is it possible they are still buried in the substrate? or perhaps some hermits are wearing the shells?
Most of my ceriths ended up involuntarily donating their shells to those blue-legged hermits (disregarding all the extra homes i gave them). My next...
Thanks James - I've been following your tank thread as well...good info.
I know wendy has the octopus recirculating skimmer - and I saw Pistolpete mention the octopus extreme but didn't want to hijack that thread (on asm skimmers) and I know mott just sold a new one (too big for his sump). Been...
David - I'm sure you didn't know this or you wouldn't have suggested it- but I am pretty sure Ryan is underage.
Ryan -
How's the clownfish? Inverts?
Anyways - if you're saying it's a disaster because of the aquascaping - i disagree. I would say take your time. The sandbed isn't destroyed...
I might have missed this - but what kind of skimmer (octopus?) is that and how do you like it?
by the way - your progress is amazing! keep posting those fabulous pics!
