Edwin maybe try catching the fish a few hours after the lights go out. Some fish get a bit lethargic then and may be easier to catch. Keep all lights out on the tank and in the room if possible and use a flash light for yourself to see.
+1. Weld-on basically chemically "melts" the acrylic together. The seams can actually be stronger than the acrylic itself. Pulling it apart you will likely break the acrylic before the seam.
I would definitely cut it like you are thinking.
Got a little extra time today and took it to modify an acrylic sump that was laying around to fit my needs. The sump was too long to fit in the stand and the baffles were set lower than I would have liked.
Here is the sump:
I first cut the sump down by 2.25"
After that I extended the...
In addition to making sure the Venturi is clear its not a bad idea to remove the pump and give it a good cleaning. I clean my skimmer pump and return pump about every 6 months. I usually disassemble the pumps cleaning the inside and the impeller and the run them for a little while in a...

To test par you need a par meter. It's basically a probe that is submersible and you put it in your tank in different locations. The probe is attached to the par meter which gives you your readings.
Very sorry for your loss. Maybe try uship.com people "bid" on shipping your load and you can usually find some pretty good deals. Hopefully you will be able to find something.
I don't think you're crazy to use that as a sump. I would weigh everything out and see if you think it will work for you. In my opinion the more water volume the better. But on that note the more water volume the more salt you will use, the more rodi water you will use, and the equipment you...
I would bubble the water after running it through all stages besides the DI. Doing it this way you will not have to bubble as much water. RO systems have a pretty high rejection rate, usually 4:1. So to make 50 gallons of RODI water you would need to bubble about 200 gallons of water and...
