Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I belong to the MESH party. Felt requires either a washing machine cleaning or soaking in bleach (and then some) to get them clean (a real PIA.) With mesh, I run them under running water while I rub the fabric together. About once a year I’ll soak them in a bleach solution to get them...
Pete, I love that room with the glass wall (and the paint and floor look good too!) The code nazis in our town require a knee wall (I think 18 inches), so you'd never see that here in town. That is going to be a great room for the tank. Just keep it far enough from all that natural...
Use some food that is more appealing.....mysis shrimp always worked for me. And my trap has a small hole in the top that fits the turkey baster. Continually push water into the trap making the food look like a snow-globe. The fish sees all that food and swims right in.
The clownfish are interracial, but both believed to be Ocellaris….the mom is black and white (ca 1 ¾”), while the dad is a mis-barred orange and white (ca 1 ¼”).
The trigger is about 4 ½ inches or so. I should mention, he attacks the siphon tube when I do water changes. Darts out and...
Who is chomping on my Tangs! I have a Scopas with a Mohawk….he looks shark-like, with part of his dorsal fin chewed off. (Best picture I could get….he’s camera shy.)
I also have a yellow with nipped dorsal and anal fins.
(Tang policeTang PoliceTang police….I know a Scopas...
When I first starting feeding nori to my tangs, I use to fold the approximate 5 x 5 piece of nori twice, cutting the folded line each time. This made an approximate 1 ½ square, four layers thick, which was attached to an algae clip. The tangs (and other fish) would attack like starving...
My wife shops every day! She has been on this kick that when she sees something “fish,” she buys it. Here is the latest purchase…..a wine stopper with a fish top.
So what "fish" stuff do you have?
It is obviously an alien pufferfish!
No mating dance....just a BIG circle to attract a female for mating. The female checks out the circle and if she likes it, well put on some Barry White music.
Anyone planning a DIY stand and wants two doors, I have them. I planned on using these on my stand, but went a different route. Each door will fit an approximate 25 ¾ to 26 inches high by 23 inches wide.
Free…..pick-up in Sayreville
This is funny! I'd pay to see a picture of that unshaven man with a flashlight glued to his lip and wondering how he's getting back in bed with the tubular piece of metal protruding from his mouth.
You know I’m too old to be up on pop culture, but that guy looks like the waiter I had at Denny’s this past weekend who delivered my stack of pancakes:
John, here’s a thought: It is recommended that low nutrient systems (biopellet tanks), run their alk on the low side. Could it be that the STN’ing you were seeing was from alk burn, and now it is improving because the alk remains the same (relatively high), but the biopellets were off-line...
George, thanks for the vote of confidence, but I’m staying away from this one….unless they wish to pay for my services.
I will state that the linked Aragonite – Calcite test is valid to distinguish aragonite from calcite.
Note that both these minerals are forms of calcium carbonate, the...
There are medications for this….but if it lasts longer than four hours…..Dance
In all seriousness, this is a common problem….because of the salt you are using. There was a time I wasn’t dosing calc because the salt (Reef Crystals), was overdosing my tank with calc. I’ve now changed my...
Anything in the 8's or even 7.9 or so an above is good with me. Could you have accomplished the same thing by running your skimmer air supply through a tube out the window (pulling is fresh air)? I've got to believe you are going to be going through soda lime pretty quickly. This is the...
Big +1 for Bayer Advanced Complete. I dilute 1 ml of Bayer for each 100 mils of tank water and leave the coral in there for about 15 minutes.
HERE is the video I originally used to get an understanding of this stuff for a coral dip. Note this author used 0.8 mls per 100…….I simply rounded...
