I don't think the tanks are as bad as that. We have two a FW 55G and the 24G AP. Both have florescent lights, total of 5 pumps/filters two heaters and my total electric during the winter is roughly 100 dollars. I think MH lighting is out for me. T5 or LED step right up. Chillers I would think...
I got it on eBay. I have another thread with the link to the seller but if you search under eBay for LED and aquarium you will find them. I think total it was like 28 bucks ... I got the longer one 10 LED. There are shorter ones a bit cheaper...he will give a discount if you use my email and...
You cannot see my fuge at all unless you lift the lid and lean way over and look in the back. Check out my thread on my AP. I used LED lightbar in the back..no heat(minimal) and cheato has done fine.
I would put some sort of filter medium in the back to surface skim. The live rock privides the surface and the deeper structure for both types of bacteria. You don't need a light for just rubble without any macro algae used in a traditional fuge. It is more of a biological filter.
Three fish in...
What about the Nader of lighting LED? I sort of am leaning towards T5 because of cost both in initial outlay and in energy. Conservation to me is important but that makes the LED idea attractive. Anyone know of LED and T5 combo's out there? That would be extremely interesting IMO.
OK took a couple days for me to post them but here you go.
The mushrooms I have couple semi loose ones are the striped ones they have attatched to little bits of rock or shell.
Thanks for looking
Torn between the super job he did on the FW tank and being lazy.
I have 24g and you have to be really strict on water changes, unless he plumbs a big skimmer that is a major consideration. Plus your scraping and testing and supplementing.
Arrrgggg
But for sure he can easily keep candy cane...
If it is blue green is it copper based? I know my dad used to bring home copper sulfate to treat tanks(he ran a lab many years ago). I would be careful in any case.
I have a bicolor pseudochromis and I have never seen a flatworm in my tank....nor have I have ever been able to keep a shrimp and all my hermit crabs run at the sight of him. Not exactly a friendly fish to be honest. But he will eat just about anything like that he can get.
Thanks mynd it means a lot to me. I will get a FT shot this weekend. I will take a couple of the mushrooms that I have too if you want them. At this point you need to get some GSP before it grows over the entire rock haha. Needless to say it is growing well.
That is all matter of opinion I guess....Finnex makes a really nice one with fuge in back. Red Sea is more expensive. Or some of the nanotuner custom jobs...I have no idea.
I will get a full tank shot soon.
Thanks I am extremely interested in LED lighting also. Will have to check out the site you included in further detail. I know that there is one guy on the Manhattan Reef page that is semi-pro with LED lighting. You can check it out I cannot tell you the name but I know he is using mixing...
