This is frustration! I never know what I’m supposed to be looking at?? Part of the problem could be that I’m colorblind. Anyway, here are the links I use for hitchhikers:

Jim, this is interesting stuff. I’ve always been told that these were spaghetti worms. Here’s a picture of one motoring across the glass of the sump about four years ago.
It’s now obvious that these are not spaghetti worms (terebellid polychaete), but are in fact hair worms (cirratulid...
Spaghetti Explosion
I’m pretty sure these are the “tentacles” of a spaghetti worm. They must be real happy because they are all over my sandbed…..a nice green color
I’ve also had an explosion of brittle stars. The weekly sock change usually results in 5 to 10 stars in the sock.
Life...
Darn! A month late…..recently purchased the SWC

I fully agree with the rusting thing. Titanium will not “rust.” The bone cutters I have must be a low grade stainless, because I have rust spots on them, and this would make them not rust….and on top of it, look pretty. :joyous:
Sandee, sorry for your loss. It’s amazing how we become emotionally attached to our fish.
My first thought was the same as Tony (shipwrecked), the fish died first. There doesn’t appear to be a “death” wound on the fish…..just severely eaten fins.
Again French Angel, RIP! :sorrow:
It can’t be electroplating, in the conventional sense. The hydrogen in water would be reduced way before the titanium would be reduced (plate out.) I’m pretty sure what you are looking at is vapor deposition of titanium nitride….it gives metals that nice gold finish. I’m also not convinced it...
Well you're almost there.....your choice with MAG is either a 9.5 or a 12.....they have no 11. :p
Are you limiting your request to submersible pumps? If you are, MAG's run forever. I'm on the same MAG 9.5 with original impeller, cleaned only once, in the last four years.
My first recommendation is to get another girlfriend! :)
If that doesn’t fly, I partitioned a 75 g freshwater tank and covered the partition with a piece of lattice that was held on with sticky-tack.
Now granted, the partition was a mesh material in a frame, but there is no reason why...
George, nothing new has been collected. Everything that was collected was collected in the mid 90's and preserved in formaldehyde. They are just getting around to publishing their findings from those earlier expeditions. All seven sharks collected in the mid 90's were sacrificed.
I’d stop adding ammonia and consider adding Bio-Spira or some other “instant cycle” product. It will shorten your cycle. Still need to monitor ammonia, nitrite and nitrates.
Tristan, this is interesting….running the skimmer in deep water. I’ve got to play with that as well, even thought it is counter to my twisted logic and theory.
Let me see if I can put you to sleep with my twisted thoughts:
Boyle’s Law states, simply put in this application, that the...
What I'm saying is that it's my cheap camera that doesn't "white balance" well....or the more likely reason, the photographer who doesn't know what he's doing. :)
But what about my inverts. I'm not so concerned about the fish and corals, but the snails and shimp...especially about the snails. I was under the impression that they are very susceptible to changes in salinity.
My stupidity will never cease to amaze me!
I dropped my refractometer about a month or so ago, and thought nothing of it, as I had made my last reading before starting to add new water to my tank. I placed the refractometer into the little case, ready to use at next weeks water change
Now...
I posted these over in the FULL TANK SHOT thread (posts 77 and 78) and just wanted to include it here for the record.
Three shots….all LED lights on, default color balance (sunlight?):
Full lights, white balanced:
Blue LEDs only, white balanced:
And the camera was a...
Two pictures…both a five foot 90 gallon tank. The first is with the default sunlight settings while the second is white-balanced. Not crazy about either!
What is of utmost importance in understanding your skimmer is that it is female. Once you realize this, and have a modicum of intelligence, you will then realize that you will never understand your skimmer. She will do whatever she wants to do whenever you least expect it. No matter how much...
