You’ve raised an interesting point about schedule 40 and schedule 80….the OD on both pipes are the same, so schedule 40 fittings will work with schedule 80 pipe and vice versa. It’s the ID that gets small as the “schedule” increases.

Only $4 for schedule 80? You must have just bought a coupling or something simple. Price out unions or bulkheads in schedule 80 and you’ll need to take out a second mortgage. For the life of me, I could never understand companies or aquarists who use schedule 80 fittings. This is overkill...
