I keep salinity at 1.025. Measured with a refractometer, though I have been calibrating with rodi and have recently found that its not a good idea to do that. My other tank is fine. Im gonna try to get some calibrating fluid this weekend.
Well I have trying to get my parameters in check for about 2 weeks now. I have been dosing 2 part to get my numbers up to par and was running into problems. Calcium always went in without a problem. Whenever I dose the alkalinity part it would almost instantly precipitate. It has never done this...
The glass I have them on is 3/16". They will lose a bit of strength but in my case not to much. I am currently holding this up two sets of magnets.
That plate measures about 4"x3" and is attached to a 4"x2" piece of acrylic. I also have another piece of acrylic that I mounted 4 frags attached...
Which is the reason I put a few coats of plastic dip on them.
The magnets are completely covered in the plastic dip several times, then a small recess is drilled into the frag disk. The recess is filled with superglue gel then in goes the magnet. No water will be getting to these magnets.
Recently got my magnets in.
Today I was bored so I coated in a few layers of this
And drying
And finished
Just in time too cause I was looking at my diy frag rack and noticed that the mag cleaner I used started to rust DI I had to remake it. Any just thought I'd share. Thanks for looking

Well I made a change yesterday. I replaced my black substrate with Fiji Pink sand, in preparation for a incoming pistol/goby pair. Change went well except somehow my JF setosa got crushed. Now instead of one nice mini colony I have a bunch of tiny frags. Other then that it seems that my emerald...
Well everything went well. Seems like everything made it unscathed except my JF setosa. Some how it got crushed in the change. Hopefully it pulls through.
Here's a pic of before
And after
Thanks for the help everyone.
Thanks Paul. I'll be on my way. Question, should the starboard span the entire aquarium or just under the rock, and should I be secured to the bottom of tank somehow? Thanks everyone.
Jim,
Do you know if that is avaiable at any of the local home centers?
Another thought I had was to use this stuff I found at Lowes. Its basically a corrugated plastic sheet, like what the use for yard signs. The stone would be able to "bite" into it causing it not slip. Any thoughts?
Nikki looks like I was responding at the same time as you. I do in fact have some frags on the bed. Some chalice, a 5+head acan, and a 1" plate. Im looking to get the chalice on the rocks anyways and the acan is pretty heavy. As for the plate, I had to lightly mount that to a disk to keep it in...
Thanks guys. A quick search states that the randalls pistol is the same as the candy cane so it looks like Greg will have that as part of the invert buy. Hopefully he will have a few gobies avail at a pretty good discount also. As for the rock first then sand, that is how I normally do things...
So tomorrow I'll be changing the substrate in my nano from black course gravel to a proper sand bed. In the near furtue I would like to add a pistol/goby pair.
1st: How deep should I go? my intention was to go about 2" or so.
2nd: Currently living in the nano is 1 blood shrimp, 1 sexy...
