    The dreaded hair algae

My JBJ nano has been running for 4 months now and has had a hair algae outbreak. I have taken some steps already such as putting a phosphate sponge in the back, as well as changing the filters, adding an emerald crab, leaving the lights off longer, trying to feed less and blowing food off of the...

    Duncan not opening

Thank you guys for the advice. I also pulled out an emerald crab after we saw him pull a piece off of our frogspawn. He may be to blame for annoying the duncan as well. If anyone wants him you can have him, little guy molted twice and got way to big for the tank.

    coraline algae color

We started using Kents Coral growth formula in our tanks and really noticed a pickup in the coraline growth. Mostly red, pink, and maroon. Regardless of the color the more coraline you get, the less annoying algae you will get because they will not grow on top of one another. Also, when you buy...

Anyone using Vitamin C for food

Thank you guys for responding, we are going to continue with the vitamin C because our zoa look great. We will look into the other additive. We just started using Brightwell and have been very happy with the results. I used their phosphate sponge and it worked very well.

    Duncan not opening

I bought a duncan about two weeks ago and the thing is not opening up all the way. I have it in the bottom of my tank with moderate light/waterflow. I spot feed it when it is open and my water conditions are fine. The only thing that I have read which may be bothering it is the frogspawn in the...

Anyone using Vitamin C for food

We have been dosing all of our food with Vitamin C on a recommendation. Seems to be working good and all of our fish and corals are looking good but I was just wondering if we are the only ones.

    Mandarin Discussion (Nano)

There is a great article on breeding/feeding mandarines in the new coral magazine. I would highly recommend picking it up (no I do not work for them). http://www.coralmagazineus.com/

29 gallon FOWLR - 1 more fish - What should it be?

You should go with the flame angel. They are relatively hardy for an angel and can be found at most LFS. You can also get a juvenile which are only about 1 inch or so. We have a small flame in a 20 g for now before we upgrade to a bigger tank.

    What's your "Smartest"/"Dumbest" Fish?

Sometimes fish can be to smart for their own good. My false percs have bonded with the feather dusters in my tank. They each "sleep" in one at night. I don't know if that makes them smart or stupid but they seem to enjoy it.

First saltwater tank. What would YOU stock it with?

I have a 12 gallon with a pair of clowns, I went with an orchid dottback at the third fish. My clowns are too aggresive for a goby and the dottback can at least hold its ground (even though it hides)

false perc trying to pair up.

I have a pair of black false percs that have bonded with my feather dusters in the tank. They move right past the frogspawn and each one has its own feather duster to stay in at night. I almost don't want to add an anem becuase I think they will ignore it.

    What's your "Smartest"/"Dumbest" Fish?

Our new long nosed hawkfish so far is the smartest fish we have. He will follow you with his eyes as you walk around and knows when he is going to get fed.

    12 gallon JBJ

My fiancee and I have pretty much only kept nano tanks up until this point due to size limits of our apartment and not owning a house yet. I recently purchased the JBJ 12 gallon and it is really an amazing tank. I would highly recommend it, you can pretty much do anything but sps and corals. I...

    Beginners corals ???

I was a true starter with corals, had never done them before. Now I have about 6 different types of zoas that are all doing well. I also have a ricordia that is beautiful and doing very well. After I got comfortable with them I got some frogspawn which is doing amazing. The other problem with...

    Tropiquarium

I have done the majority of my fish shopping at Trop over the last year or so and highly recommend this place. They know everything about whatever piece of coral or fish you are looking at. Also, the pre-mixed salt water is a great time saver.

    Picasso Clowns at Aqua Oceans

I picked up the last grade a he had. Great purchase, he fed them in front of me and has been alive and perky since we bought him. The store doesn't look like much but they have great fish. Also, I told him I had found his store through this forum and he said he was putting up a banner ad on...
