    My first saltwater setup

We have a 20 g (along with 3 other tanks) and have not been using a skimmer. The nano skimmers are pretty new to the market and there are some pretty bad ones out there. The only one we tried that seemed to work was the new biocube one. We do weekly water changes on the 20 and that helps with...

I have no business having more than 1 (maybe 2) tanks.

Hang in there!! As someone who went from zero tanks to 4 in six months I understand. This whole hobby is trial and error, and we must all remember we are dealing with wild animals that are all very opurtunistic and don't think like we do. I think the title of an article that I read recently said...

    Hair Algae Question

I started a thread with the same question. What has worked for me is chemipure (or any other phosphate reducer), less light and less feeding. Also, blow the junk off your rocks before water changes to stop it from decaying on the liverock. The last step, which is really exciting, is pulling it...

identifying a worm in my tank

If you have corals in your tank, you probably want to try and get them out of there. When they get bigger they can destroy corals and eat some inverts. The easiest way to get rid of them is an arrow crab, but that might be to extreme if you have only one or two. Once they finish with the...

    newbie zoa question

With new lights you only want to have them on for maybe 4 hours a day and ween the corals onto them. Also, depending on the bulbs, turn on the blues first then full color, helps.

Good Aquariums to visit in NJ,NY,PA area

I would recommend Camden, my fiancee went to law school there and we walked over a few times. They have excellent reef tanks and the rest of the aquarium is very fun. Just don't go for the local Camden tour ;)

    feeding frogspawn

Sounds like you got a bad piece. I have to recommend tropiquriaum, I got a piece with two heads and it has been doing wonderfully. I spot feed occasionally with mysis and brine and it does great. My secret was getting the bastard emerald crab out that was nipping at it.

    Duncan not opening

Moved the duncan up in the tank last night, started opening a bit, we will see. He still looks very healthy and has not lost any of his "flesh".

    The dreaded hair algae

I don't know about vodka dosing as this is a 12 gallon tank, and I don't want to crash it.

    The dreaded hair algae

Thank you all for the tips, I think I need to just get in there with my hands and yank off as much as I can. When I added the phosphate sponge it started to brown over so I might be winning this battle.

    Hey guys

The website says it kicks out 35 w, if I am looking at the right one which should be fine for LPS corals.

    The dreaded hair algae

I haven't checked phophates recently because I was told once you have hair algae it will mask your phosphate levels so the tests aren't acurate. Also, do you just pull the algae off or is there a better way to trim it?

    The dreaded hair algae

I think a sea hare might be a bit to big for my 12 gallon tank but I have looked at them. The mexican turbo might be intersting to try.

    Drip acclimation -- a discussion

As we have started to get more expensive fish recently we have been drip acclimating all of them over the course of 45 mins or so. All the fish are doing well and we have not had one problem. Corals we just float and pour some water in and they have been doing fine.

    Flame tastes buds

We have a flame with zoas and mushrooms and he leaves them alone. We also make sure to keep him well fed with mysis and seaweed. You always have to be carefull, I sometimes catch my clowns nipping at my zoas and palys.
